Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

‘The best of La Rioja’ cycling tour meanders through rural areas of this famous Spanish wine region. Far from mass tourism, this tour supports the development of local rural communities. Moreover, these holidays collaborate with a local association which protects the natural areas and the indigenous fauna and flora. We put special attention in offering hand-picked locally run rural hotels. Some of them are committed to the environment and support initiatives such as "Tierras de San Millán", an association which promotes the activity of "San Millán de la Cogolla" valley, the management of sustainable walking and cycling paths and the protection of the environment. In the same way, the hotels are committed to using local produce and providers as well as responsible use of sustainable energy. Of course, we encourage all our hotels to reduce waste, reuse where possible and to recycle locally.
In the office our commitment to the environment means that we reduce the use of energy with a sustainable provider and we are committed to a responsible use of other resources such as water, recycling office material including paper, plastic, batteries, ink cartridges, disposing of bicycle components such as tyres and inner tubes…
This holiday produces a carbon footprint of 0.3914 tonnes of CO2. (The calculation includes taxis, luggage transfers and accommodation for every traveller).
People
La Rioja is a principally rural, agricultural area and the type of tourism that we promote supports the local economy, favouring rural communities and providing important resources for the local artisan wine production. This holiday has been developed and designed by our local expert who has carefully planned this route including the selection of hand-picked hotels, the best the area offers, and who has provided ‘inside’ information about places to visit away from the usual tourist trails, places to eat with the locals.
All the hotels are located far from the usual international tourist destinations like Haro, Ezcaray, etc. We have avoided using international chains, instead favouring local or family-run establishments which sustain the local economy. All our luggage transfers and taxi services are reserved directly to our local providers in La Rioja and offer an important financial boost to many local businesses.
We are totally committed to sustainable local tourism, where the visitor is immersed in the culture, tradition and daily life of the little villages, small towns and cities that are visited in La Rioja. We encourage our travellers to visit locally run wine museums and wineries and local bars and restaurants where regional produce is used.
