Description of Multi activity holiday in Costa Rica

This multi activity holiday in Costa Rica takes you on an 18 day adventure across this stunning Central American nation, with a small group of like minded fellow visitors and expert guides to accompany you along the way. Canyoning, rafting and kayaking are among the many adrenaline fuelled activities on offer as you travel around the country.

You’ll start your journey in the capital, San José, where you’ll have a chance to explore the museums, markets and restaurants before heading out into the wild. Your first challenge will be white water rafting through pristine rainforest on the Pacuare River, before heading for the Caribbean coast at Puerto Viejo and then kayaking the waters of Tortuguero National Park on the lookout for monkeys, caiman, jaguars and colourful birdlife.

You’ll also spend a few days trekking alongside the Savegre River - one of the cleanest rivers in the world, which offers plentiful opportunities to swim under waterfalls. Corcovado National Park, one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world, is also on the agenda, and here you’ll be able to explore cloud forest, lagoons, swamps and marine habitats.

Small group adventure holiday

This is a 'small group adventure' - on this particular group trip you'll be with a maximum of 31 like minded travellers and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends it's good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting people from other parts of the world as well as seeing new places!

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Travel is an opportunity to experience different cultures, meet new people, taste weird and wonderful foods and – for many – to get close to wildlife you may have only seen in books or David Attenborough documentaries. We actively discourage travellers from participating in any activities that exploit wild or domestic/working animals. This trip spends a lot of time outdoors including in Costa Rica’s beautiful national parks. Our leaders are trained to show passengers the safe and appropriate way to interact with animals without touching or interfering with them.

We educate our passengers on environmental issues on all of our trips. We have an initial group meeting, during which we encourage everyone to refill bottles and recycle if possible. All our tour leaders are there to set an example on how to become more responsible travellers.

Fortunately tap water in Costa Rica is largely drinkable, allowing our passengers to refill their water bottles rather than continuously buying plastic single use ones. Our leaders will tell travellers where it is safe to drink water straight from the tap. We encourage our travellers to minimise their use of water and ensure our passengers preserve and do not contaminate the local water supply.

Our greatest contribution to minimising our transportation's impact on the environment is to travel by foot on the Savegre River trek, avoiding the use of any energy or fuel.

The Impacts of this Trip

An important part of travel is mixing with the locals and experiencing “real life” in your chosen destination. On this trip, we visit small cafes and restaurants and buy locally created crafts and produce. This gives locals the opportunity to earn money directly and our travellers the chance to interact with locals in return. During the 4-day Savegre River trek, our groups stay in cabins run and inhabited by local families. This is a perfect opportunity to support rural communities and interact in an authentic and respectful way. We do pay a lot of attention to travelling in such a way that it doesn’t cause disruption to local life too. We also encourage travellers to avoid giving gifts or succumbing to begging, as this can result in dependency.

We employ local leaders. We also design and operate our trips to feature local suppliers or suppliers who directly benefit the local community and economy. We offer local people good working conditions, a fair wage and empower them through training opportunities. All of our tour leaders also go through an initial training program, which includes a module on responsible travel.
