We are dedicated to living, as much as possible, a sustainalbe life-style. We only use organic products. Even our sheets, towels and bathrobes/slippers are made of organic cotton. We support local, organic farmers and artisan food producers.

Our cleaning products are all ecological and as natural as possible. We have organic gardens, low-impact swimming pool, rain water collectors, energy efficient appliances.

We attempt to use as little plastic as possible and use glass bottled water in deposit bottles and also the beer is in deposit/return bottlesetc. We recycle and compost. Even our wine corks are recycled. We purchase bulk supplies.

We encourage guests to walk and use the bus/train system.

We have replaced all of our windows with energy efficient ones. We have applied for permission to install solar panels.

We collect the rainwater for watering the gardens. Our gardens are organic and maintained according to the therory of Permaculture.

We support our local farmers & small food producers, artisans and family run businesses. We are also members of Slow Food and our local organic food cooperative. We are responsible for initiating a Slow food group for our area of Colares, which has a long history of growing special, heirloom fruits and vegetables.

We offer complimentary shuttle service to/from the local small restaurants, we support several of the small, local wineries that produce some of the oldest wines in Europe. We organize wine tours and promote an understanding of the local agriculture, which in Portugal has traditionaly been mostly organic.

We take guests to the local farmers market and we support our local beautiful book shop which is a wonderful place for purchasing pre-owned books. It is run by volunteers and the proceeds go to the Down Syndrome Support Society of Portugal.

We are also a part of organiztion for keeping the beeaches clean.
