Description of Vegan food tour in India

This eight day vegan food tour of India travels to the famous Golden Triangle region to explore its vegan food culture, while taking in the famous sights of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Far from enjoying ‘a moment’, vegan food has always been part of life in this corner of India, with delicious specialities including pearl millet roti bread, curries bursting with turmeric, cardamom and clove, and deliciously fresh salads made with unusual berries and beans.

On this vegan-themed food tour you’ll travel in a group of no more than 12 people. Tuck into sensational dishes in small local restaurants, learning from local people. You'll be accompanied by six vegan influencers from Canada, the UK and Australia who were originally involved in researching this brand new tour. This is an opportunity to delve deep into Indian cooking, discovering dishes that are utterly fresh and original, while also seeing the Golden Triangle's most beautiful sights.

Try the amazing vegan food served in the tucked-away backstreets of Old Delhi, including crisp and tasty vegetable samosas and the fresh paratha bread shallow fried in the Chandni Chowk precinct. In Agra, you’ll enjoy a meal at the lovely café at Sheroes Hangout, a social enterprise that offers support and employment to female victims of acid attacks. Spend a night at a beautiful heritage hotel, Castle Kanota, in a peaceful setting and surrounded by lovely grounds. Relax here and dine on a superb Rajasthani vegan feast, too. Along the way on this vegan tour, you'll have the chance to learn from local cooks and have a go at cooking authentic vegan food.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

As a leading global tour operator in the responsible travel space, each of our locally run small group adventures takes the environmental impact of tourism into serious consideration. Our new Vegan Food Adventures continue in this regard, whilst bringing a nuanced range of environmental and sustainably-minded issues to the fore.

Veganism is about more than just food, of course. It’s an entire movement, a shift away from animal products generally. Travellers on our Vegan Food Adventures may not necessarily be strictly vegan themselves, but may more generally prioritise health and wellness, as well as the environmental impact of industries catering to the production and distribution of animal products. As such we ensure that all produce is locally sourced on route, that we are eating in locally owned restaurants and supporting local food producers and artisans with a focus on vegan and plant-based/non-animal ventures and activities.

For these unique Vegan Food Adventures, we’d of course love to offer trips that visit vegan hotels and use nothing but vegan alternatives to products such as leather, but the logistics of doing so make it impossible at this stage. Perhaps one day! For now, the focus of our vegan trips is of the epicurean variety – quality, local, authentic vegan cuisine done by those who do it best, in some of the most incredible places around the world.

Your local leader will provide a large supply of water for individual refilling throughout your journey in order to reduce waste and the purchase of single use plastics. We also provide branded canvas bags at the start of the trip, which are not only perfect for shopping at local markets, but eliminate the need for plastic bags along the way.

The Impacts of this Trip

As with each of our Real Food Adventures you will not only enjoy the culinary but also the cultural highlights of the destination. You will discover the iconic sights of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur – from Amber Fort to the Taj Mahal – as well as taste the best and most authentic local vegan cuisine the Golden Triangle has to offer.

This itinerary also includes a visit to Sheroes Hangout, a vegetarian and vegan café, a one-of-a-kind social enterprise providing employment and opportunities for women who were the victims of acid attacks. In keeping with our commitment to supporting local economies we also strive to provide educational opportunities that will open a window into social and cultural issues and raise the awareness and consciousness of our travellers with regard to their destination.

As with each of our small group and Real Food Adventures, we source the best options for low impact transportation. We also maintain a commitment to employing local leaders and to increasing the number of female leaders across the business. On this Vegan Food Adventure, we have sourced local leaders who are themselves either vegan or vegetarian with a working knowledge of various forms of veganism and related issues. This allows clear communication and understanding and also means that our leaders can navigate public spaces as a local and can certify when vendors are adhering to our responsible travel practices. They will even provide things like vegetable oil and soy milk along the way to ensure that our vegan travellers will be able to enjoy things like iconic street foods and homemade chai without compromising their diet or lifestyle!
