Description of Papua New Guinea small group tour

This 14 day Papua New Guinea small group tour will introduce you to a truly diverse and fascinating country. The tour begins and ends in Port Moresby, the capital, and we use a handful of internal flights so we can explore far and wide, and spend some time on New Britain Island. Discover the remote landscapes around Lake Murray and meet the tribal people living there. Explore the Highlands, one of the first places in the world where agriculture developed and a region that’s home to a rich cultural mix. In the Sepik region, you can travel along the Sepik River and meet the so called Crocodile Men, whose scarified skin resembles a crocodile’s, and see their spirit houses. Stay in Kokopo on New Britain, too, where you can take a dolphin watching trip and find out what life’s like on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Environment

We ensure our guides are mindful about protecting the environment in which you travel, and they do a fantastic job of promoting having a minimum impact to the environment whilst travelling.

We ask you to be vigilant about disposing of your waste and recycle where possible. During your trip you will be asked if you have any waste to dispose of when it is a suitable time in the itinerary. This ensures we make it as easy as possible for our travellers to be eco-friendly whilst traveling.

We strongly advise all travellers to bring a reusable water bottle - this is an easy way to save plastic waste and is detailed in our ‘What to bring’ trip notes for all trips to all destinations. Your guide will remind you where and when you can fill up your re-usable water bottle.

We also encourage general sustainability - limited use of air-con for instance. Something we focus on as an organisation and try to pass on to our travellers.

Community

As regular travellers, one thing that never ceases to amaze and inspire us is the kindness and generosity of local people, often people who have very little to their name. We firmly believe that they are who make these places special should and that they should benefit from our visit. Therefore, as first preference, we use local guides and locally-owned lodges, shops and eateries. We do our best to ensure that the benefits of our tours reach as widely as possible into the communities where they operate. We also support a small portfolio of charities and local grassroots organisations.

We support the community in Papua New Guinea by contibuting to WaterAid, for every booking we recieve we make a token contribution to this noteable cause. WaterAid has seen significant changes since they started thier work in Papua New Guinea in 2012. The Government understands and promotes the important roles of clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene in improving health, education and livelihoods.

WaterAid works together with the Government, organisations and communities, to tackle challenges caused by a lack of access to clean, sustainable drinking water head on, and we are proud to support this charity."
