Description of Vietnam holiday for solo travellers

Always wanted to see Vietnam, but donít have anyone to go with? This small group tour is the perfect solution Ė designed expressly for solo travellers to benefit from the sociability that comes with a small group tour, with a pre-planned but flexible itinerary, great value and of course the opportunity to meet people from many different walks of life.

Youíll travel north to south, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, visiting all the key destinations including spectacular Halong Bay, the Imperial Citadel of Hue, Hoi An and the vast Mekong Delta.

Memorable moments come thick and fast on a compact tour such as this. The amazing limestone islands of Halong Bay, that youíll explore by boat; the overnight train from Hanoi to Hue; the flavours and aromas of the stalls youíll browse at Dong Ba market in Vietnamís former imperial capital; touring Hue and its surroundings on the back of a motorbike driven by a local guide; enjoying lunch at a working nunnery, and a whistlestop sightseeing tour by bus of Ho Chi Minh City, during which youíll see the Reunification Palace and the Opera House.

Vietnamís cities are crowded, colourful, full of life. But itís in the rural countryside where you may get the deepest cultural immersion. Towards the end of the tour your group will travel into the sprawling Mekong Delta, that vast labyrinth of swamps, islands and waterways lined with floating markets, pagodas and riverside communities. First by boat, then by tuk-tuk, and finally by sampan, youíll visit remote villages and sample the local specialities, before dining back in Ho Chi Minh City at KOTO, a restaurant dedicated to helping street kids find careers in hospitality.

Whether youíre an old hand at travelling solo, or this is your first time, this Vietnam small group trip will captivate you.

Small group adventure holiday

This is a 'small group adventure' - on this particular group trip you'll be with a maximum of 31 like minded travellers and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends it's good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting people from other parts of the world as well as seeing new places!

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Throughout the trip you will also be encouraged to take steps to ensure that your journey is as environmentally responsible as possible.

Responsible travel is one of the pillars our company is built upon. All of our travellers are provided with information regarding responsible travel at all stages of the booking process and while travelling with us. Our tour leaders are also trained extensively in responsible travel and will advocate for this throughout our trips. On our vehicles we supply drinking water so travellers can re-fill their water bottles.

Each traveller on this trip is given a gift of a Responsible Traveller cloth bag made by disadvantaged children from Central Vietnam. This bag is designed to combat the increasingly prevalent problem of plastic bag pollution disrupting the various marine and land habitats of Vietnam.

On this trip we try to use local transportation where we can, such as overnight sleeper train. By using public transport, we reduce the amount of carbon emissions we produce.

The Impacts of this Trip

The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travellers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world we are exploring; to travel responsibly is at the heart of our commitment as a global tour operator.

Your group leader and the local guides we use along the way will help to break down barriers in your interactions with local people. In addition, we travel by some local transport to facilitate and encourage interaction with the local population. In the Mekong Delta, we visit a local garden restaurant, in the heart of the Delta, where you can sample some of the regional specialities such as the famous elephant ear fish. We board small rowing boats, sampans, and paddle through the many mangrove tributaries to visit small villages and meet with the friendly locals.

Your leader will explain the range of projects we support in Vietnam, and in Hanoi, we visit one of these projects - KOTO, a restaurant dedicated to training street kids and disadvantaged youth in skills for the hospitality industry.

At the end of our journey, travellers may donate any unwanted clothing, medicine and bandages, which are distributed to appropriate local charities.
