Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Environment

We are very aware of the environmental impact caused by tourism in our unspoiled region of the Baixo Guadiana, which has the most nature reserves and protected areas in the Algarve and Alentejo.

Our region is known for its deserted beaches, lagoons, world class bird reserves, ancient salt pans, pristine forests and orchards, blue lakes with mountain streams and the international Guadiana River estuary.

We encourage our hotel partners to reduce their plastic usage by using shampoo and soap dispensers; by using glasses and metal cutlery; and by refusing drinking straws. We also encourage our food and wine partners to reduce their plastic usage by using glasses and metal cutlery; by serving water in glass bottles only; and by refusing drinking straws.

All our hotel partners reduce their carbon footprint by using light switching cards and sensors in their rooms and public areas; by using solar panels for water heating; and by using Inverter technology in their air conditioning. We also encourage our food and wine partners to reduce their energy usage by using light switching cards and sensors in their kitchens and public areas; by using solar panels for water heating; and by using Inverter technology in their air conditioning.

Community

Our region is the poorest region part of the Algarve and the Alentejo. Most of our villages and towns are isolated and suffer from mass migration to large urban areas on the Western coast. The older generation stayed behind and depend on subsistence farming and welfare grants.

Responsible tourism that respects nature, local people and their culture is the only sustainable economic activity that will create business opportunities and youth employment. All our staff and those of our service providers are locals.

We take our guests on amazing experiences that are natural and very authentic. Allowing them to interact with local people who are very welcoming.
Our small, comfortable and charming hotels are owned by local families that will welcome you with open arms. Try the local cafιs and restaurants on our recommended list for delicious seafood and meat dishes, don΄t forget the unique cakes and desserts that are inspired by the local fruit. The taste and quality are amazing because everything is cooked fresh and sourced at local farms that use traditional organic farming techniques.
