Description of Greece family holiday

Capture the imagination of the whole family with an idyllic holiday in Greece that takes you from the ancient treasures of Athens and Delphi to the paradise islands of Lefkada and Corfu.

Introduce your kids to the cradle of democracy with visits to the iconic Acropolis and Parthenon during a walking tour of Athens to get your bearings, before heading off by public bus on the short journey to Delphi, where you can learn the entrancing stories of Greek mythology that have captivated scholars for generations.

A long day of travel to the Ionian island of Lefkada can be broken up with refreshing swims along the coast, and the effort is very much worth it with delicious Greek seafood to look forward to, and simply breathtaking scenery. Admire the waterfalls of Lefkada after a morning spent in a mouthwatering cookery lesson during which you’ll discover the secrets behind one of the world’s healthiest and tastiest cuisines.

Next you’ll take the ferry over to the famous island of Corfu for the last few days of your family holiday in Greece. Stay in a hotel in the picturesque old town, and enjoy an island tour that takes you to a donkey rescue centre the kids will love, a traditional tavern for lunch, and an ancient hilltop monastery surrounded by groves of olive and citrus with outstanding coastal views.

Naturally this holiday provides plenty of time to simply relax on the beach, and dive into the country’s magnificent food. You won’t want to come home, and no-one would blame you.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

As a company we take a real interest in the environments we visit. On trips to fragile sites, like the Acropolis and Delphi Archaeological Site, we ask our families to stick to paths to show respect for these preserved areas. To reduce single-use plastics on our trips we often provide reusable bags, encourage the use of reusable drinking bottles and are working to increase access to places to refill them.

Greece is currently experiencing a tourism boom, so it’s crucial for us to make sure that all activities we take part in are sustainable. For example, we take a lot of care when choosing accommodation and instead of staying in the big chain hotels, we opt for locally-run guesthouses which make less negative to environment. The Greek hotels featured on this trip practice the worldwide water usage program – ‘Replace or Reuse’.

This simply asks customers to state whether they want to replace or reuse their towels using a bathroom hanger. Hotels have little place cards in their bathrooms explaining that every day millions of gallons of water are wasted whilst washing towels that have only been used once. If clients are happy to use their towels for another night they hang it up, if they would like a clean one they leave it on the floor. Many hotels will also ask guests to take short showers to minimise water wastage.

The Impacts of this Trip

All aspects of this trip (on the ground) are operated by Greeks, including all our leaders, vehicle drivers, local site guides, and accommodation providers.
Our company is committed to employing local leaders for all of our trips and that includes our family range. All of our leaders are specifically trained on responsible travel and are encouraged to live and breathe it on every departure they run. All travellers are briefed on responsible travel in their first welcome meeting, which is almost always on the first evening of each trip.

We source produce locally throughout the trip, eat at local restaurants and encourage our travellers to purchase souvenirs from local artisans. One example of this is a lunch we have at a local traditional tavern in the Kassiopi village, allowing families to discover what life is really like in this part of Europe.

This trip has a maximum of 16 participants, allowing us to have a low impact on the communities we visit and meaning we can ensure that we don’t disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people.
