Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Responsible travel is one of the core pillars our company is built on. As such all of our travellers are provided with information regarding responsible travel at every stage of the booking process and while travelling with us. Our leaders are also trained extensively in responsible travel and will advocate for this throughout our trips.

On this tour, all travellers will receive a reusable cloth bag. Plastic pollution is huge issue across Asia and so this small gesture for our clients will assist in campaign to stop the use of plastic bags while shopping and visiting market places for souvenirs.

Our greatest contribution to minimising our transportation's impact on the environment is to travel using a variety of transportation such as taking the overnight train and long tail boat. Where we use private transport, we will always ensure that it is the appropriate size to suit our group (i.e. no big tour buses for small groups of 16).

Water is a precious commodity in this part of the world. Our trained tour leaders are well versed in advising travellers on initiatives to manage water consumption. We encourage travellers to treat this scarce resource with the utmost respect. In our private vans in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam we supply all families with drinkable water, so they can re-fill their water bottles as and when they wish. We also actively encourage them to bring their own reusable bottle from home.

An important part of travel is mixing with the locals and experiencing “real life” in a destination. On this trip, we stay in family-run hotels, visit small cafes and restaurants and buy locally produced crafts and produce. This gives locals the opportunity to earn money directly and our travellers the opportunity to interact with them. We visit the traditional arts and ethnology centre in Luang Prabang, a non-profit museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of its traditional arts and lifestyles.

All aspects of this trip (on the ground) are operated by Thais, Laos and Vietnamese locals including all our leaders, vehicle drivers, local site guides, and accommodation providers.

We have a foundation which was set up to empower travellers to have a positive impact on the communities they visit. Our foundation now supports more than 50 local, grassroots projects around the world. Over the past 15 years, it has distributed over AU $5 million to initiatives tackling areas such as sustainable development, human rights, child protection, environmental conservation, wildlife protection, education and healthcare.

On this trip we join our friends at COPE in Vientiane. This organisation is dedicated to assisting those who have been injured by the multitude of unexploded devices across the country. This is an excellent cause and a chance to educate yourself about Laos' devastating history. Our foundation has been raising funds to this project since 2018 and raising awareness of it by visiting it on our tours.
