Description of New Zealand North Island gardens tour
2022: 14 Nov
Accessible tourism overview:
As a small group tour specialist we have carried thousands of New Zealand travellers who have limited mobility, many who have decided our style of touring is right for them and tour with us many times over. We are now able to offer this same experience to our international travellers.
We offer door to door service. Wherever possible accomodation with lifts is chosen or ground floor accommodation is utiilised. We also book rooms designed specifically for limited mobility where available (e.g. with handrails, level flooring throughout etc.). There is no need for the traveller to handle their own luggage as this is taken care of by your friendly Kiwi guide and porterage assistance at the hotels.
Deaf or limited hearing:
All of our tour commentaries that the Kiwi guide utilises throughout the tour are available to be read online. Tours should be suitable for people with hearing limitations, but being accompanied by a hearing friend would be advised.
'Free from' food:
All dietary requirements are catered for. We have excellent communication with our meal providers and are used to requesting dietary requirements.
We have had many LGBT travellers. New Zealand is a progressive country and we provide the same travel experience for all our travellers.
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe are committed to operating environmentally sustainable tours. By nature small group touring using one vehicle to transport multiple clients is more environmentally friendly than usual modes of travel including rental car or campervan. We have monitoring systems in place to ensure our vehicles are serviced and driven in line with the manufacturerís guidelines making the running of the fleet as efficient as possible.
We are a Qualmark Approved Visitor Service which means we have been independently reviewed and deemed to operate in an ethical, professional and environmentally sustainable way. Wherever possible we select suppliers that are also Qualmark approved and therefore deemed to operate in an ethical, professional and environmentally sustainable way.
We pay an annual licence and have official accreditation to operate on Department of Conservation land which demonstrates our commitment to the environment and sustainability. Payment of the license fee funds the protection of New Zealandís national parks.
Office: We work from several home offices saving on travel time and fossil fuel consumption. All printer cartridges and paper is recycled. Both home offices water supply is supplied by rain water.
PeopleThis tour follows a garden trail along country lanes to discover heritage homes and gardens steeped in history. We support a multitude of heritage properties visiting properties & houses that date back to the mid 1800ís. Edward Beetham guides us through Brancepeth his familyís homestead, gardens and farm buildings dating back to the 1850s. We also visit Angela Williams at Te Parae homestead built in 1905 which shares family history with Brancepeth, andf meet Judith Callaghan at her big and colourful country garden, Dursley, designed by Alfred Buxton in 1916.
We also support several private gardens and the gardeners who have lovingly sowed and grown them for a magnificent result. On this tour we visit renowned Hamilton Gardens and lunch with Jeanette and Stephen Williams at Moondance Manor and enjoy their expansive garden. We visit Lynne Atkinís wonderful, lush, and Greenhaugh Gardens surrounding the homestead built in 1874.
We also where possible visit local craftsmen, markets and restaurants further helping to support the local community. On this tour we visit the Cross Hills Gardensí Country Fair 180 stalls showcase unique and New ZealandĖmade products displayed in Rodney and Faith Wilsonís magnificent 7ha garden of 2000 rhododendrons and azaleas.
