Southern Greece walking holidays

Description of Southern Greece walking holidays
Perfect for those who would like a relaxed, scenic way to explore archaeological sites of Athens and the Peloponnese while getting away from more crowded areas for much of the time, this Southern Greece walking holiday is a wonderful way to explore the culture, history and fascinating legends of this region.
Over six days on the trail you’ll get to know the rest of your small group well, along with your capable tour leader, there to handle all the logistics and directions while you enjoy the walking and the views. At key locations you’ll also meet up with knowledgeable guides for deeper insights into some of the world’s most fabled ruins.
Beginning in Athens, from where you’ll visit the Byzantine monastery of Saint Lukas in Boeotia, and hike the slopes of Mount Parnassos, you’ll walk the ‘Sacred Way’ though the shrines of ancient gods to the theatre of Delphi. Then it’s on to the magnificent Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games, with its temples and stadium, before you transfer to the majestic, mountainous region of Arcadia.
Here, in the central Peloponnese Peninsula that was home in Greek mythology to the god Pan, you’ll hike river gorges and stone-paved paths between traditional villages, pass monasteries that defy gravity to cling to cliff edges, and climb to the summit of Mount Mainalon. Reaching Nafplion on the coast, you’ll spend an afternoon exploring Mycenae, homeland of the Trojan War hero Agamemnon, and hike quiet paths through the beautiful countryside around Epidaurus.
Throughout this week-long walking holiday in Southern Greece you’ll stay in a succession of comfortable three-star hotels, locally owned and often family-run. A warm welcome is assured, as well as delectable Greek cuisine.
And as the tour often follows out-of-the-way walking routes it’s also a wonderful way to get a feel for rural Greek culture, as your tour leader introduces you to small communities and you bump into local people on the trail. Often, having a short chat with a friendly local can be just as memorable and enjoyable as admiring the amphitheatres, mosaics and temples here that are renowned across the world.

This is a walking & cultural tour of the South of Greece with nature, culture and activity in balanced proportions. Scenic hikes on ancient trails with panoramic view, to mountain peaks and through an imposing gorge, and visits major historical and cultural places; all of them UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites, in the middle of typical Mediterranean landscapes in the picturesque countryside of Southern Greece. No single-use receptacles are used in our picnics; fabric picnic tablecloth instead of a paper or a plastic one, washable dishes and cutlets. Our guests must have their own picnic set! We also avoid the use of plastic water bottles. In most areas the water is drinkable and we can fill our flasks with tap water.
Your tour guides will probably encourage you to help them clean at least the picnic spot collecting any possible garbage and carried them to the nearest operating bucket. We do it anyway…
We do though use a vehicle for the transfers, when we do not cycle. However, as this tour is designed for small groups, it is performed with a new tech minibus, which certainly has limited impact to the environment compared to a bus.
Our company promotes ecotourism and sustainable adventure vacations, whilst providing you a unique travel experience. We guide you to the beautiful nature and civilization of Southern Greece, in a journey out of the ordinary.

We are a Greek family run tour operator and travel designer with a long experience and we work with local people: We select small locally owned and mainly family run accommodations and restaurants, we shop for our picnics from small local stores and we employ locally based cultural guides for the archeological sites. Also for the meals we choose typical dishes cooked with locally produced ingredients, fact that certainly benefits agriculture and livestock of the South. This tour is certainly beneficial for the local economies as it supports the two main activities: tourism and primary production.
We ask our guests to respect the culture and customs of each destination and do everything possible not to disturb the local activities. As this is a trip for small groups the negative impact to everyday life is practically zero.
Our guides and local partners with their expertise and knowledge, will make you feel like locals for a week and make this vacation an unforgettable experience for you.
