1 Reviews of Crete guided walking holiday
5 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
We enjoyed a custom trip around Crete. Elpida at the office was terrific help in planning our trip. Our guide Dimitris was superb - engaging, knowledgeable, at all times thoughtful and kind - he did everything to make our trip one of the best ever. The most memorable time for us was seeing the Northwest and Northeast
sections of Crete - gorgeous - although we loved hiking the Imbros Gorge, exploring Chania and Heraklion, and being in the mountain villages. Learning to love tskoudia, to recognize wild horta and then try different kinds at our meals, to enjoy Greek coffee at breakfast and any time - and Knossos and the archaeological museum in Heraklion were absolute knock-outs!
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take the advice of the local agency folks - they really know what they are doing. Just tell them what is important to you (hiking? eating? museums?) and what kind of pace you want to keep up. As far as what to see and do, you cannot
go wrong on Crete - the natural landscape, the villages, the ancient sites,
charming and interesting cities - all wonderful!
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Well the tourism certainly helps the Greek economy. The hotels did recycle and save on laundry - but we used a lot of gasoline driving many miles to see
the whole island.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Absolutely one of the best ever. Our guide was so good that we engaged him
privately for a four day extension to the Mani in the southern Peloponnese.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
When choosing this walking sightseeing cultural tour in Crete, you are choosing a responsible holiday as we as a company are committed to what is called responsible travel.During this trip our dear guests will have the opportunity to visit some of the major natural and cultural highlights of Crete. National Parks, Protected areas, Archaeological Sites, places with great natural, geological, cultural, and historical value; this is an eco-guided tour and our tour leaders share their wide knowledge on the areas we visit.
We avoid large hotel complexes and instead we book small scale hotels, we travel in small groups and transfers are performed on a minibus, facts which lead to limited impact to the local ecosystem in comparison to a bus.
No single-use recipients are used in our picnics; fabric picnic tablecloth instead of a paper or a plastic one, washable dishes and cutlets. Our guests must have their own picnic set. We encourage our guests to help us clean at least the spot we choose every time for our pick-nic pose. We collect any possible garbage and carried them to the nearest operating bucket.
We avoid the use of plastic water bottles. In most areas the water is drinkable and our guests can fill their flasks with tap water.
Our company promotes ecotourism and sustainable adventure holidays, whilst providing you a unique travel experience.
People
We strongly believe that local people are essential part of each destination, which is primarily their home and so we do whatever is possible not to disturb their lives, their customs and activities and asking our guests to show the same respect. Furthermore, we intend for our trips to be beneficial for the local community, culture and economy. We strive to educate our travelers about the destination and local culture as well as providing guidelines on appropriate behavior to minimize impact. However, as this is a trip for small groups the negative impact is practically zero.
We work with local people. Our guides are locals, we select small, mainly family-run accommodations and taverns, and we shop for our picnics from small local stores. Our guides and local partners with their expertise and knowledge on the area they will make this trip and unforgettable experience for you.
During this trip, our guests will taste a variety of traditional delicacies of the famous Cretan cuisine, cooked with locally produced ingredients.
We guide you to the beautiful nature and civilization of Crete, in an adventure out of the ordinary.
