Responsible tourism: Mount Everest Base Camp trek

Environment

Trekking / hiking: We employ locally, all our our hiking experts are from Nepal and have years of experience in the mountains. We ensure that safety is our highest priority and guides understand this.

Water: Drinkable water is quite expensive in the mountains and we want to reduce our impact when hiking. We encourage all our hikers to have a Lifestraw water bottle or a UV light to drink through. This ensures that there is no watered plastic. We also provide water purification tablets which allows hikers to reuse their water bottles and reduces the need for gas/wood fires to boil the water.

Wildlife: by exposing our volunteers to the beauty and serenity of experiencing wild animals in their native and natural environment, we hope to enlighten and educate our volunteers on the importance of environmental conservation. These are values that can be taken home with them and transferred into their local community activities and attitudes.

Adventure: When you choose to take an adventure with us, you can travel knowing that the proceeds will support charity. This means the proceeds are invested into helping at-risk children, endangered wildlife, and supporting communities.

Community

Participation in our programs delivers a range of benefits to all participants. As we are a registered charity, even if you do not undertake a volunteer project your funds are used to support the Charity and invested back into the communities we work with. Our ultimate goal is to reduce poverty, increase educational opportunities and to increase employment opportunities.

Whenever possible we employ local guides to ensure you receive an authentic experience and to ensure that we are investing into these communities. We purchase all food and building supplies locally and as much as possible we use environmentally friendly materials.

During your trek, you will stay at local Tea-houses run by families within the community and will eat locally sourced food. We endeavour at all times to bring back our waste (plastic bottles, lolly wrappers, potato chip bags) to Kathmandu to be disposed of efficiently rather than it be burned or buried in the mountains.
