Description of Messinia authentic holiday in Greece

Welcome to beautiful Messinia, one of Greece’s most beloved travel destinations. With its combination of earthly colours and blue seas, the wonderful beaches, ancient monuments, scenic coastal villages, food, vibrant night life and the joyful people, it’ll soon be your new favourite too.

No visit to Greece would be complete without seeing Athens, its lively neighbourhoods, and its spectacular historic monuments. Enjoy an expertly guided tour of the Acropolis and admire the ancient remains of this great civilisation, before relaxing at a vibrant bar in the Flisvos Marina.

Whether it’s the magnificent Messinian Bay, the countless beaches with their golden sands or the seaside towns of Stoupa and Kardamili, the area quickly charms with its natural landscapes and picturesque towns. Some of the most charming spots can only be reached by boat, so hop aboard and explore the little-visited corners of the coast and discover the region’s hidden gems.

You’ll have chance to hike along the beautiful Neda river and watch caretta caretta (loggerhead) sea turtles on Ai Giannakis beach, before one of many stops at a traditional tavern for the tastiest Greek food. Enjoy a coffee under the warm Kalamata's sun or sample the delicious Peloponnesian dishes, washed down with ouzo or local wine. The local produce is one of the holiday’s highlights, and you may want to take home cheeses, olive oil, dried figs and honey – to keep you going until you next return. If you visit Messinia once, one thing is sure: you will soon be back.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

During our tour we visit the Acropolis Hill, the Parthenon and Ancient Messina in the Peloponnese. All these popular places have a great historic importance and concern the whole world. Our experienced guides, following the motto "Respect our ancient heritage!", they provide visitors practical advice about leaving ‘no traces’ on the archaeological sites they visit. This is particularly important due to over tourism in these historical sites and will allow this treasure to remain intact.
Some of the locations we visit are protected areas due to the sensitive flora and fauna species. The sandy beach of Ai Giannaki, situated in the Western Peloponnese, is home to the caretta-caretta turtle. We have to be careful. Thus, before leaving we collect our rubbish and other objects that don’t belong to the location and dispose of it in the correct bins.
On this tour we are going to stay for 5 days in the beautiful city of Kalamata. The Blue Flag beach of Kalamata is 2.5 km from the city center but the hotel where we are going to stay, is located in front of the sea. Here our visitors can feel free to go to the beach and enjoy a swim in the crystal waters of the Messinian Bay. This is a great opportunity for them to show their respect to the coastal environment, so we recommend visitors not to take with them pebbles and shells and not to throw garbage on the coast.
We also suggest to our travellers to say no to plastic bags, so we present them with a beautiful fabric bag as a gift. They can use the eco bag during our tours to put their water and souvenirs in. At the end of the tour, they can take the bag home as a remembrance of the journey.
In addition, we want to avoid the purchase of plastic bottles on the trip. We suggest to our visitors to bring their own water bottles. Whenever possible, we drink water coming from water springs or from the village taps, depending on the water safety.
Tourism has the capacity to have a great impact on the whole planet and on the environment as well. Our goal is to make this impact as positive as possible!

The philosophy behind our trips one motto: We Care, We Share, We Love.
That means that all our tours and our customer services are focused on our visitors, the locals and their culture, on nature and the environment.
That's the reason why we choose family taverns and restaurants, where the local owners cook with goods from the agricultural and livestock production of their region.
On this tour, we will visit:
- a family tavern in Ancient Messini, where Nikos and his mother will offer us one of the best gastronomic experiences in the Peloponnese.
- Jimmy's souvlaki corner, where he, a local inhabitant, makes the most famous handmade souvlaki of Kalamata.
- Mr George’s shop, the best bakery and pastry shop in town, a "must" for breakfast and sweets, which are made from the freshest ingredients. If we are lucky, we will meet the owner who lives there from his childhood.
- an olive grove and an olive oil mill, where our friend Dimitra, the owner, proud of her olive trees will show us everything about the production.
We care about all the Peloponnesian communities and we recommend local handicraft shops to our travelers, so that their holiday spendings contribute to the economic development of the region.
We always try to share with our guests the information needed so that they can understand the communities we visit together and create valuable opportunities for them to mingle and exchange thoughts and experiences.
We always advise our guests to interact with the local people, get involved in their traditional feasts, taste delicacies from small stores, buy desserts and bread from local bakeries.
This is the way to be a traveler! This is the right way to travel!
