Arctic Circle activity holiday

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Environment

This hiking and kayaking adventure is 7 days away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Traveling via only your own human power and reliable, timely public transportation, and staying in small, isolated accommodations along the way. This trip offers an intimate interaction with Norwegian nature and local culture while minimizing your CO2 impact.

Responsible travel includes considering the large scale impact from CO2 emissions can have on the world. Choosing an adventure such that uses high quality public transport minimizes that impact by taking away additional pollution in how we travel locally. By only using our own power to hike mountains and visit ocean environments, we reduce the contribution to pollutants in the air while still gaining an impactful and personal experience with Norwegian nature.

We also founded a non-profit called the Cairn Foundation. This foundation supports locals in remote locations within Africa and Nepal. Any guest joining our trips will have the option to donate 1 dollar a day, or simply support a company that gives back to communities locally and globally.

We are partnered with trail care organizations in Norway to ensure we are giving back to the land that we use while on our own two feet. As tourism in Norway increases, it is our responsibility to make sure travelers learn about their environment, respect nature, and minimize their impact. Trail maintenance to minimize impact and recover ecological health is imperative to keeping our nature healthy and educating users on Leave No Trace philosophy.

Community

We are the leading provider of outdoor adventure in Norway. We are committed to setting an example of sustainable and eco-friendly tourism for the Norwegian industry, and making it competitive for other companies to meet our standards.

We partner with small, family owned businesses and support local food, accommodations, and travel. This trip in particular takes travelers to places unknown to most visitors. The people on these islands used to rely on fishing for income, and now are shifting over into tourism. On this trip, you will enjoy a homecooked meal in the home of a local on one of the islands. This provides the opportunity to listen and understand how the history and changes these islands have undergone have shifted the communities.

This area is renown for its innovation and creativity. One of our accommodations was recently created from an old school house, changing an abandoned location into a new lodge for guests, refurbishing old campers and placing them in the building. This ambiance creates a new way of camping: camping in recycled, refurbished campers and supporting the artist community present on these islands. This location is home to approximately 10 inhabitants, whom started a distillery on a small island, on this trip, we support the islands growth by visiting their distillery, and learning how the locals have created new ways of boosting the local economy suited to developing tourism as the traditional fishing industry becomes less reliable. Partnering with locals to encourage their growth is one way we give back to our communities directly.
