Winter short break in Finland
Description of Winter short break in Finland
Lakebound Tampere, an hour north of Helsinki, is just 90 minutes from the capital by train (included in the price of your trip). This popular city retains a charming small town appeal, and is home to the world’s only Moomin Museum. In case you’re not familiar with these cute, hippopotamus-like characters, they were created by the Finnish illustrator Tove Jansson and have featured in some of the world’s best-loved fairytales. The museum explores Jansson’s life, the stories behind the Moomins, and even lets you try your own hand at comic book art in a studio.
Transferring to a holiday resort by Lake Vanaja, you’ll embark on a thrilling ride aboard a sledge drawn by huskies, then learn the skill of ice fishing through a hole drilled in the frozen lake. Try your hand (or foot) at the traditional Finnish sport of kick-sledging, take another exciting safari, this time by snowmobile out to a wilderness island, and each evening sleep in a lovely resort surrounded by nature.
You will also have the opportunity to try a Finnish smoke sauna, cooling off with an icy dip in the lake if you have the nerve, as well as visiting the medieval Hämeenlinna castle, one of the most popular tourist attractions in southern Finland.
On your final day, you’ll make a stop at another celebrated destination in this region: the Heureka Science Museum. With a series of enthralling permanent and temporary exhibits covering topics from dinosaurs to electricity, the solar system and good brain-care, it will keep you entertained and informed for hours.
This is a superb winter tour for families in Finland, bound to generate many amazing memories with every day bringing a new treat.
PlanetThis short winter break in Finland takes place by train, the most ecological way of transportation.
The first hotel is located within walking distance from the railway station and the Moomin museum so no transfers are needed in Tampere.
Transfer to the husky picnic takes place by taxi but in case we have several families, they will share a taxi. The husky park treats their huskies well, they are family members and only take a few drives a week. Our guests will meet the huskies and can play with them.
The holiday resort is located in the middle of most beautiful lake nature and takes care of their environment. Skating, snowshoeing and ice-fishing are not hurting the nature. Big mother fish is never caught in this way. We have made sure that the hotels we are using are recycling and paying attention to the way they produce energy. For example, a holiday resort is using geothermal heating. In Finland, all the households and companies are recycling their waste (plastic, cardboard, glass and metal separately) to minimize the amount of energy waste.
PeopleOur agency is located in Tervakoski, next to the town of Hämeenlinna. This is the area we know the best and shall personally welcome our guests. We promise to bring visitors to this beautiful southern lake district of Finland and offer genuine Finnish experiences throughout the way: skating, cross-country skiing or ice-fishing on frozen lake ice and Finnish sauna.
The Moomins are created by Tove Jansson and have belonged to the most beloved children's books already in many generations of Finns. Grandmother and the grandchildren know the same stories, only the communication tool has changed from comics books to animatics. Both the hotels used in this product are owned by private Finnish families and they both have an outstanding location, the other one in the heart of Tampere only a few footsteps from both the Moomin museum and the railway station and the other one in the middle of the lake nature. Each room has a lake view.
