Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Our purpose is to collect a group a minimum of two families to share airport transfers and transfers to activities in order to save costs and decrease the environmental effects. The cabins located in the village of Äkäslompolo are selected in order to make it possible to walk to as many restaurants and activity starting points as possible. They are made out of Finnish log, ecological and locally produced material.
Waste management is arranged by the Kolari municipality so that every property owner has to join the waste management system. The waste, which can not be reused, is transported to a waste incinerator in Oulu (=354km away, which is too far but there are no incinerators closer).
Both the cabins and electricity is used for warming up the houses. Ecologically friendly activities such as reindeer sleigh ride, husky safari, ice-fishing and snowshoeing are selected and when snowmobiling, two people are always sharing a snowmobile.
Please note that for this destination it is also possible to arrive by a night train from the Helsinki airport and avoid the domestic flight.
People
Private Finnish family owns these log cabins and a local company in Äkäslompolo takes care of the maintenance. All the activities are booked from a small, local company located within walking distances from your cabin. During the ice-fishing safari especially you have time to talk with the guide and learn not only about this favourite hobby of the local people but also life in general in Lapland.
The visit of Santa Claus to your cabin is not only exciting but also a very local habit. In Finland, Santa Claus makes a visit on Christmas Eve after the Christmas dinner, sings a Christmas coral or two with you and asks if the children have been nice. Then it is time to open up the gifts. A traditional Finnish Christmas dinner has been included to give you a chance to taste our traditional food - ham and casseroles.
Drivers serving you are all local and know their home district very well.
