As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

The logistics of this trip have been constructed to be as environmentally-responsible as possible. This trip uses small, locally-owned accommodation for the majority of the overnight stays; the environmental benefits of small accommodations over larger hotels are numerous, and this is a factor we consider on all of our tours. Similarly, transportation between destinations is a factor that we aim to keep as low-impact as possible. This trip makes use of shared vehicle to transport our travellers between destinations, with no internal flights or other means of transport with a greater negative environmental affect.
One stop on this trip is Alejandro de Humboldt National Park. The park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for almost two decades due to its vast wealth of plant and animal life, and the economic support that responsible tourism brings plays a significant part in the maintaining of the park, and ultimately, the protection of its animal inhabitants and indeed the landscape itself.
We strongly advise all travellers to bring a reusable water bottle - this is an easy way to save plastic waste and is detailed in our ‘What to bring’ trip notes for all trips to all destinations. Your guide will remind you where and when you can fill up your re-usable water bottle. We also encourage general sustainability whenever possible - limited use of air-conditioning and electricity for instance.
The Impacts of this Trip
As Cuba’s second largest industry, tourism on the whole is vital in supporting all communities across the entire country. This itinerary in particular has more free time than is typical, allowing many opportunities for travellers to explore local shops, bars, and businesses and support them by means of direct custom. There are a number of interactive activities which work hand-in-hand with local businesses to further this – for example the pottery class in Trinidad, which gives our travellers the opportunity to buy local artisan handicrafts, and offers the business custom through the class itself.
As regular travellers, one thing that never ceases to amaze and inspire us is the kindness and generosity of local people, often people who have very little to their name. We firmly believe that they are who make these places special should and that they should benefit from our visit. For that reason, as well as promoting local businesses, this tour offers casas particulares rather than state-run accommodation in many of the locations visited. This ensures we benefit the communities we visit directly, and support local economies as well as the country as a whole.
