As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

This tour also supports the Sumidero Canyon National Park. The park is home to many species of animal, including the endangered spider monkey, river crocodile and great curassow. Additionally, the protection of the rainforest and natural areas that make up the park itself is hugely significant in this area of Mexico, where human encroachment is having more of a detrimental impact on nature every day.
The logistics of this trip have been designed with an environmental awareness, too. Travel between destinations is done by the most eco-friendly means possible, with transport such as shared vehicle or bus being taken over long distances, and exploration of the sites we visit being done on foot where possible. This trip also features a number of overnight stays in and eco-lodge and small heritage properties. The environmental benefits of small accommodation over large hotels are significant, and this is a factor we consider on all of our tours.
Finally, to you our traveller, we ask you to be vigilant about disposing of your waste and recycle where possible. During your trip you will be asked if you have any waste to dispose of when it is a suitable time in the itinerary. Similarly, we strongly advise all travellers to bring a reusable water bottle - this is an easy way to save plastic waste and is detailed in our ‘What to Bring’ trip notes for all trips to all destinations. Your guide will remind you where and when you can fill up your re-usable water bottle. We also encourage general sustainability such as using electricity sparingly when possible. This is something we believe in strongly as an organisation, and something we try to pass on to our travellers.
The Impacts of this Trip
As one of the country’s largest industries, tourism is a significant source of income for Mexico. Particularly within smaller communities, this income can allow for great development and improvement of quality of life. We firmly believe that it’s the people of these communities that make these places special, and that they should benefit from our visit. Therefore, as first preference, we use local guides and drivers offered fair wages and working conditions, use locally-sourced supplies, and visit locally-owned accommodations, shops and eateries. We do our best to ensure that the benefits of our tours reach as widely as possible into the communities where they operate, and benefit the people of those communities directly.
This trip supports museums such as the National Anthropology Museum and the Museum of Xalapa, as well as many of Mexico’s ancient archaeological sites. The economic support that responsible tourism provides is essential in the continued running of these places, and ultimately, in the preservation and exhibition of Mexico’s rich and ancient history and culture. These sites are not only of great value to Mexico, but to the world, and as such, their longevity is of the utmost importance.
