Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

We will be travelling to an area that is stunning natural environment with rain forest and much wildlife. It will be our responsibility to ensure that we make as little impact as possible. To this end, we will have briefings on how to deal with all types of rubbish and what to pack for the trip in order to reduce non-recyclable waste.

Another important source of waste are plastic water bottles. We will be carrying water balders that we can fill in regularly with fresh water. That way we potentially save on the use of over 400 plastic bottles.

During our kayak trips, we will be in a unique position to help clear plastic from the sea. Floating rubbish poses a great risk to both bird and marine life and we make great efforts to remove it whenever possible. It is also interesting to lay out this rubbish and take a look at those bits of plastic that come up often so we can understand what are the most harmful plastics to use.

During our trip, we will be moving by kayak for 5 days rather than using any other form of travel. We will also be eating a lot of locally produced foods and we will cut down considerably on the use of plastic bottles.

The Impacts of this Trip

Our trip to Costa Rica is supported by local businesses in the Osa Peninsula that will provide us with some of the essentials for our trip. Some will give us equipment as well as support in emergencies; others have shared their local knowledge to ensure we are choosing the best options available of what routes to take and where to stay. Additionally, we are employing a local kayak guide who will be with us during our trip in the Peninsula and knows the area very well.

He will help us discover all those hidden spots only locals know in the coastline, the mangroves and the rain forest hikes. We also have chosen to stay in family run lodges rather than large hotel chains. These families will provide not only accommodation in simple but comfortable cabins with real beds but also will cook us meals with local produce. We are in for a treat!
