Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

On this trip we spend seven nights in comfortable hotels including Bohinj Eco Hotel, situated in the heart of Triglav National Park. This is the first and only Green Globe certified hotel in Slovenia recognised for its efforts in sustainability and addressing efficiency, by operating LED lighting and the use of a water well. We’ll also stay in a hotel in the Soca Valley for three nights, whereby guests can enjoy the beautiful landscapes the valley has to offer.

Activity & Environment
This excursion is packed with exciting activities, all of which have very little detrimental impact on the environment. We are very aware of our effects on the places we visit, and therefore, we incorporate sustainable activities which include hiking, canyoning and white-water rafting.
Guests can enjoy a morning hike around Lake Bohinj, followed by an afternoon of paddle boarding across the crystal-clear waters. On day four, we spend an afternoon canyoning, where guests can experience sliding down the smooth rock faces and waterfalls, before a day of rafting and ziplining awaits. We’ll experience one of Europe’s largest, longest and highest zipline parks, where we fly down five wires in total.
Slovenia is not top of your average traveller's list of places to visit… precisely why it gets our vote. By offering trips in countries that are overlooked by less adventurous travellers, we can give local economies a much-needed boost. With small groups participating in low impact activities, this can be achieved without compromising the environment. We also operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy, whereby we ensure no rubbish including plastic has been left behind in the places we visit.

Group Size:
This is a small group tour, meaning that we have a low impact on the environments and communities we visit and are able to ensure that we do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. The small number also allows us to stay in unique, family-run hotels that cannot benefit from coach tours and other mass tourism due to their limited sizes.

UK Office:
It all starts at home where we work towards reducing our carbon footprint in our offices through energy conservation measures, recycling policies and the promotion of cycling and walking as a means for our staff to commute. Our head office has become a plastic-free zone with the use of plastic bottles being banned in our head office and we distributed reusable water bottles and tote bags to every staff member. We also support a large number of community and environmental projects in different parts of the world and try to give something back to the places we visit.

The Impacts of this Trip

Community & Culture
During this trip, we will have the opportunity to experience some of Slovenia’s history, by visiting Kolovrat Outdoor Museum with its First World War trenches and mountain caves. Our visit to Goriska Brda presents picture-perfect hills of grapevines, olive groves and cherry orchards where our guests will visit a local wine cellar and learn about Slovenian wines. We’ll also have the opportunity to try unusual chocolate combinations such as dark chocolate with mohant cheese. Our tourism can be a real help to local communities providing income, positive cultural exchanges and the financial incentive to protect the natural environment.

Leaders & local suppliers:
As a part of our continued commitment to responsible tourism, we work closely with our local operator to run this trip in a way that aims to reduce impacts and to give as much back as possible to the local communities. We use local leaders who are committed to responsible tourism and helping to preserve the way of life in their area. The leaders will give a briefing on Responsible Tourism issues to help you understand how you can help reduce your impact and maximize the benefits to the local community from your visit.
