Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Much of this trip takes place within Chile’s incredible natural landscapes, and as such, we have worked hard to ensure it is as environmentally-friendly as possible in any area possible. We ensure our guides are mindful about protecting the environment in which you travel, and they do a fantastic job of promoting having a minimum impact whilst travelling, whether in natural or urban environments.

This trip supports the Torres del Paine and Vicente Pérez Rosales national parks, as well as the National Flamingo Reserve. These parks and reserves are home to many animals, plants and incredible natural features, and they rely on the support that visitors bring in their continued operation. Visiting these locations not only inspires our travellers through a close connection with nature, it directly allows them to continue their vital work and protection of natural spaces.

To you, our traveller, we ask you to be vigilant about disposing of your waste and recycle where possible. During your trip you will be asked if you have any waste to dispose of when it is a suitable time in the itinerary. This ensures we make it as easy as possible for our travellers to be eco-friendly whilst traveling. We strongly advise all travellers to bring a reusable water bottle - this is an easy way to save plastic waste and is detailed in our ‘What to Bring’ trip notes for all trips to all destinations. Your guide will remind you where and when you can fill up your re-usable water bottle. Similarly, we respectfully ask you to be environmentally-conscious in other areas across your trip, for example using climate control and electricity sparingly where possible.

The Impacts of this Trip

As regular travellers, one thing that never ceases to amaze and inspire us is the kindness and generosity of local people. We firmly believe that they are who make these places special, and that they should benefit from our visit. Therefore, as first preference, we use local guides and drivers offered fair pay and working conditions, use locally-sourced supplies, and visit locally-owned accommodations, shops and eateries.

This trip features a number of excellent sources of support for the people of the communities visited. The itinerary includes visits to the Piedras Australes handicraft shop as well as Castro’s well-known handicraft fair. This is an excellent opportunity for our travellers to buy locally-made artisan goods directly from the craftspeople, allowing them to keep their traditional practises alive and earn valuable income.

Similarly, the visit to the Undurraga Vineyard – a local vineyard which has been handed down through 5 generations – has wide reaching impact on the people of the Maipo Valley. The vineyard employs many local people and is at the heart of both the local community and economy. When done responsibly, tourism can have a great and positive impact on communities, and these are just a few examples of how it can do so.
