Environment
Kuzuko Lodge is based inside Addo Elephant National Park which conserves a wide diversity of landscapes, fauna and flora. Kuzuko Lodge: runs a Conservation Volunteer Programme where you can learn first hand how conservation happens which includes daily monitoring of animals, getting involved in conservation like fence maintenance, road and water maintenance as well as other general conservation duties. They run an educational presentation on recycling and the impact thereof. Part of Heritage the Environmental Management Company enabling a more sustainable business community. Education on conservation can only be effective and successful if we teach our children to love and protect their living heritage. They also run a Junior Rangers Programme which inspires future generations on wildlife conservation. A portion of the accommodation payment goes towards the Kuzuko foundation for wildlife rehabilitation.

Kuzuko practices environmental conservation through invasive plant irradiation.

Guests at Kuzuko can also visit the Kuzuko Interpretative Centre which teaches and educates about wildlife.

Pearl Valley: the estate is water neutral (they repurpose all their water) and they do recycling. It is a sustainable estate. Conserving its abundant flora and fauna is important and they have planted indigenous species of plants and 140 species of bird life has flourished. Glass, paper, plastic, tin and cardboard are all separated and recycled since November 2011 and four tons per month is recycled. All excess garden material is used to make compost and recycled back into the estate's gardens and 700m3 of compost was produced. It is certified by the Golf Environmental Organization. The estate has also signed a 5 year initiative with the Forever Wild Rhino Protection and the Wilderness Foundation Africa to promote and raise funds for conservation activities in Africa.

While travelling in the wildlife area, visitors must remain inside the vehicle at all times, except at the designated lookout points, where visitors may exit their vehicle at their own risk.

Kuzuko Lodge has a Cheetah Breeding, Wildlife & Release project in conjunction with the Ashia Cheetah Conservation NPO.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

As part of the upliftment of the disadvantaged communities surrounding our reserve, Kuzuko offers an educational programme funded by the Kuzuko Foundation. They also teach the surrounding community on recycling.

You will also have a cultural exploration tour. This will assist with improving the quality of life for current as well as future generations as the tour payment goes towards the Kuzuko Foundation which supports the community. Staff housing, wages, working conditions, insurance and share ownership are through a Workers Trust. They have partnered with a Wilderness Foundation where young adults from the local community are selected for an 18-month course for ecotourism jobs so they are supporting the local community. Kuzuko has also gone on to employ some of these graduates. Most of the lodge's fresh produce is purchased from local farmers or grown by the staff and their families. The Kuzuko Foundation supports 2 local farm schools with transport for their learner and, maintenance to their facilities.

While staying at Kuzuko you can volunteer to work in the local veggie garden while is on the property, as part of the Kuzuko Foundation, the veggies are donated to the local community.

By going on the free walking tour in Cape Town you will be supporting a local guide as the tour is complimentary they are not permanently employed but then would receive gratuities as the remuneration to support the guide and their families.

Kuzuko also runs a project called the Rhino Art Project which teaches the local community about this endangered species and the dangers of poaching, this increases conservation awareness.

While on safari there is a 1% community levy and this goes towards assisting in the creation of legacy projects in the surrounding communities.
