Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Patagonia is a top destination for travellers who are eco-conscious and interested in the natural environment. The vast region is spread over both Chile and Argentina and encompasses fjords, forests, mountains, glaciers, grasslands, lagoons and more. The national parks set out strict rules to visitors in their effort to protect and preserve the region for the future.

We ask that all clients respect the environment at all times while on this trip, this includes listening to the rules set out by guides and accommodation staff members. On top of that we ask that customers switch off all electricity when not in their accommodation, limit their water and plastic use and request that the staff do not change towels or bedding unless this is necessary. When on hikes and activities in Patagonia, we request that customers only use marked paths and do not disturb any flora or fauna that they find on route. More so, this trip uses shared services for all of the hiking excursions and boat trips which further cuts back on each person's carbon footprint.

On the visit to Magdalena Island to witness the penguin colony, we ask that all travellers respect the animals and keep their distance at all times. Our guides always ensure that nothing is left behind on the island and all litter and waste is brought back to shore to be disposed of properly. Another highlight which you will visit is the Perito Moreno Glacier located within Los Glaciares National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The administration of Los Glaciares National Park are committed to providing guests with the best experience possible while protecting the glacier and natural environment, and the entrance fees helps maintain the services and walkways in the area.

We work closely with accommodation suppliers for this trip and will always recommend that customers stay in the unique eco-domes found in various locations in Patagonia. The large eco domes have no TV and no internet, and do not pollute the surrounding environment in any way. The camp is is solar-powered and even has compostable toilets. All the products provided are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. The owners of the camp have worked incredibly hard to provide sustainable accommodation for people visiting Torres del Paine National Park and we are delighted to support it.

The Impacts of this Trip

We work with local guides in Patagonia, which not only supports employment within the community but provides you, our customer, with the most accurate and in depth information on the region as possible. Local guides are in the best position to educate you on the flora and fauna you will see on your hikes as well as important information on the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

We believe that travel done well can benefit all involved - from the local suppliers, people you meet along the way and you, the traveller. We encourage our customers to learn a few words of the local language (in this case Spanish) so that interaction with locals is possible and it enhances your social experiences on tour. This also shows respect for the communities you visit and shows tourism in a positive light.

Where meals are not included, our guides will provide recommendations on places to eat depending on your preferences and requirements. They will always recommend local restaurants and cafes as opposed to international chains to ensure that your money spent is staying within the community. Along the same lines, we encourage customers to shop in smaller markets and stores to pick up unique and ideally locally made products.
