Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We learn about the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the wood wide web of mycelia to deepen our understanding of how our actions effect the ecosystem at largeThe accommodation uses solar panels for heating water and its electricity (the roof of the house is fitted with solar panels). Respect our desire to preserve electricity and turn lights out (Environmentally friendly light bulbs are used) and take short showers. Ecotricity is our energy supplier.
We encourage you to share car lifts down or take public transport to reduce your carbon footprint and if you'd rather not take a flight, we give details of other participants taking the train or driving down from different areas to share lifts to reduce carbon footprint.
All food is vegan or vegetarian, local produce is the ideal, whatever is fresh in the garden will also be served.
Whilst out on walks, we encourage you to pick up any litter you find so as to keep our surrounding environment pristine.
We use Octopus Energy in our London office, which sources all electricity from renewable sources.
People
You come as a client and leave as a friend. We support each other to make and sustain the changes we want to manifest with our own health and wellbeing, our objectives to support friends and our community, and become a more conscious and aware individual making choices that are a positive impact for nature and the environmentWe hire local people who are a part of the village community to prepare and clean up after the retreat.
The owner of the venue uses revenue to support her charity, Farms Not Factories which is a non-profit organisation working through film-making and campaigning to support the ‘food sovereignty’ movement by exposing the true costs of cheap meat from animal factories to inspire consumers to only buy meat from local, healthy, high welfare farms. The globalisation of the livestock system, undermining small scale, high welfare farmers and resulting in the loss of food sovereignty. Animal abuse through confinement, overcrowding, illegal tail docking, illegal lack of bedding, neglect and denial of natural behaviours. Threats to public health through antibiotic overuse which leads to antibiotic-resistant diseases that pass from pigs to humans.
Pollution of the air, sickening local residents, and of the water table, rivers lakes and the sea causing eutrophication (nutrient overload), fish kills and destruction of aquatic wildlife. Destruction of Rainforest and Cerrado forest in S America to grow genetically modified soya which is shipped 8,000 miles to factory farms in Europe.
