Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
Accommodation - this trip stays in eco-lodges while in the Amazon Jungle. Not only is this a unique experience but the lodges are designed to limit disruption to the animals and plant-life of the Amazon. They are built from local materials in order to blend in with the environment. Electricity and hot water are limited so that the accommodation has minimal impact on local facilities. There is water available so we suggest that travellers bring a reusable water bottle instead of purchasing plastic bottles.

Respect - We understand that protecting the environment is of the utmost responsibility of every traveller and tour operator, and we therefore include thorough information of our policies online so that travellers can feel prepared and comfortable with what they can do to help. This includes but is not limited to: ensuring all electricity is switched off when not in use and limiting the use of air-conditioning when possible, always asking the hotel staff not to change bedding and towels unless necessary, limiting single use plastic and disposing of waste correctly and generally respecting the areas you explore making sure not to disrupt the natural environment.

History and Culture - One of the highlights of this trip is naturally visiting Machu Picchu. By viewing UNESCO sites such as this in person, we are giving travellers an insight into the history and beauty of the area and this generally inspires people to protect these types of sites for generations to come.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

This trip puts the traveller into contact with various Peruvian communities to allow a deeper understanding and appreciation of their way of life. Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and is home to indigenous communities who have preserved their way of life while opening up to tourism in order to supplement their income.

This tour visits the islands of Uros and the island of Taquile, where travellers enjoy meaningful interactions with the people and learn about their unique way of life. There is also the possibility to purchase locally made fabrics and crafts from the families to further support their community. This trip also includes a tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas where travellers visit a traditional market and are able to purchase souvenirs to support the local community there.

This tour includes a two day excursion to the Amazon Jungle where we employ the use of local guides to not only support employment in the region but to provide the most authentic experience with local guides who have an abundance of knowledge.

Our tour leaders will always encourage travellers to eat in local restaurants and pick up food from markets. In Lima and Cusco especially, there is a great variety of local food on offer that travellers can enjoy without having to rely on imported products. The meals included in the Amazon Jungle excursion are all made from locally sourced products.
