Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Although the water in America is safe for customers to drink, on our holiday information sheet we encourage customers to purchase a discounted filter bottle which combines three different technologies to remove over 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants in water. This prevents the need for single use bottles.

We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy and keeping to the worn path to help maintain trails for future generations. Our tour leader, local leader and wolf and wildlife tracker are trained to promote this message to customers whilst on tour. Meals which aren’t included can be purchased from hotels which helps spread the benefits of tourism.

Our tour leaders will educate travellers on how best to interact with the wildlife in the parks, for example advising people not to feed the animals to stop them becoming dependent on hand-outs from humans. Our specialist wolf tracking guide will explain how to keep ourselves and animals safe within the park, and how to not upset the delicate ecosystem balance which exists.

We are committed to offering low impact holidays that benefit the country and communities we visit. We ensure a lot of the time is spent exploring on foot, and it is important that our staff, local guides and customers are aware of the delicate balance which exists in the places we visit and we keep our impact to a minimum. This tour operates during low tourist season in Yellowstone and utilises local guides, meals, services and accommodation owned by American companies which helps keep transport miles low.

The Impacts of this Trip

This tour operates during the low Yellowstone tourism season when the park interior is closed to the general public. The park almost comes to a standstill except for lodges and Yellowstone staff. To reach the interior, we use a Yellowstone snow coach.

Included on this tour is a wolf and wildlife tracking guide, guided snow showing lesson, and equipment rented from the lodge. It is important that we are purchasing services for local businesses, especially at a time when tourism numbers are low. Also, that we can maintain demand for specialist guiding services.

We spend a significant amount of time in Yellowstone National Park on this tour, the included entrance fee helps to preserve the status and upkeep of the park on a continued and sustainable basis. Interaction with park rangers helps to preserve this role as an employment opportunity for local people and future generations.

We cap this tour at the maximum of 12 customers (and one leader) so as not to impact on the fragile environment of the areas we pass through on foot. Smaller groups allow us to travel quickly and quietly. On this tour we contract both private and public transport and helps provide economic benefit to the local communities we visit.
