Moscow to Warsaw holiday

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Transport and Group Size: The maximum group size on this tour is 19 people, meaning we do not require large coaches that harm the environment and cause further road congestion. Instead this tour is run solely on local transport, from comfortable and well equipped buses in the Baltic region and trains in Russia - including an overnight train between Moscow and Veliky Novgorod. Using public transport is the best way to experience a country, not only does it limit the groups harmful CO2 emissions, it also avoids contributing to road congestion and it allows us to meet locals and travel as they do.

The hotel that we use in Tallinn has been awarded with the environmental green key - they use aerators in sinks to limit water consumption, shampoo and soap dispensers instead of one use plastic containers and eco label toilet paper.

Meals: This tour includes breakfast only, so all lunches and dinners are at the travellers own accord. This is great for flexibility and allows you to explore the culinary side of the places that you will visit. The tour leader will always recommend the best local restaurants and smaller businesses where your money will really make a difference.

The market in Riga is not only a great cultural experience, but has plenty of local produce to sample. Eating locally is is the best way to ensure your food has a low carbon footprint.

In the office: In our Head Office in London, all our staff members either walk or take public transport to the office.

Environment

History and Culture: The tour visits an incredible seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in only two weeks. These are the Moscow Red Square and the Kremlin, the city of Novgorod, the historic centre of St Petersburg and the Old Town’s of Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw. Places that are declared protected by UNESCO are vastly important in preserving the history and buildings of an area, with entrance fees going towards restoration work. Our tour leaders are careful to explain and educate travellers on the importance of respecting these areas and their rich history - being careful to never leave behind waste and to respect signs and barriers.

Responsible Travel Policy: We have a full responsible travel policy available online which is sent to customers in the booking confirmations. This outlines how every traveller can play their part in protecting the environments we visit with helpful tips on travelling responsibly. In our administrative offices, we only use paper, water or electricity when it is necessary, and we reuse and recycle the resources that we do use to make sure that a minimal amount of waste is produced by our office procedures.

In Veliky Novgorod, Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw our hotels are centrally located and within walking distance to the attractions. Walking within a city is without a doubt the best way to explore while not contributing to carbon emissions. When travelling within Moscow and St Petersburg we use the local metro which ensures we are not adding to road congestion and CO2 emissions caused by vehicles and also allows our travellers to get a feel for what it is like for locals living in these cities and really get a grounds-eye view of the culture and environment.

Community

Local Guide: In Moscow we employ a local guide for the Kremlin tour. Not only does this support local employment but it also provides travellers with the most authentic experience and can learn first hand from a resident of Moscow.

Meals: With help from the tour leader, our travellers are introduced to a large variety of local food, markets and restaurants, encouraging everyone to support these smaller establishments over large franchise restaurants. Russian and Baltic food is very unique with lots of delicious dishes and by trying the local fare travellers are giving themselves the most authentic experience.

Travelling with respect: On our website we provide our travellers with many tips for responsible travel that aim to ensure good relationships between travellers and the local communities we encounter on our tours. We also produce online country guides that contain various tips on the culture you will be visiting, etiquette rules and how to generally respect the places you experience. We also encourage our travellers to learn some words of the local language to help facilitate their travels and as a show of respect for locals.
