Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

It is our responsibility to protect and preserve Lapland's nature for future generations. Lapland is characterized by its unspoiled nature, forests, vast swamps, and many lakes. Join us to take care of nature and wildlife. We follow strict “no trace left behind” policy and we encourage you to do the same. Let's leave nothing that doesn't belong to our mother nature. Our guides will collect all the trash so please give them anything you need to throw away. They will make sure it is disposed or recycled properly.

In order to limit waste production, recyclable or reusable dishware is being used during our tours. Fortunately, Finland has the cleanest natural water, therefore we commonly use tap water. Our guides bring this water in reusable thermal bottles for our customers. This tour is operated in winter and the temperature is usually below zero. The guides will bring enough water for everybody. However, we recommend you to bring your own (thermal) bottle which you can refill in your hotels or in our office before the trip.

During the tour, we serve local food such as grilled salmon or reindeer sausage usually purchased from a market across the street, so we do not produce any food shopping-related emissions.

Husky and reindeer rides produce only limited emissions. However, during our snowshoeing tour, we will use only our own power. Besides, reindeers are semi-domesticated, we can see other Arctic animals such as foxes, bunnies or owls. Our guides will instruct you on how to behave in nature. The general rule is that we do not damage the fauna nor flora. It is forbidden to pluck or tear plants. Making noise, disturbing the animal, leaving the official paths are also prohibited. Photographs of animals must be taken without flash.

We cooperate with 3 different husky farms, so we ensure that the dogs have enough rest during the working days as well as a longer break during the season. It is common that a farm does not operate 2-3 weeks even during the season. In our husky farms, the dogs have appropriate accommodation in kennels. In any case, the capacity is limited and we do not run the husky tours in unsuitable weather conditions and add another starting times.

People

As a family-owned tour operator specializing in Lapland, we fully contribute to the local economies.

We proudly cooperate with local providers of activities (above all local reindeer and husky farms), accommodation, equipment, and souvenirs. For example, this package includes a stay in a Finnish based hotel - hotel Aakenus, locating close to the town centre (a couple of hundred metres), the hotel offers various accommodation services and promises to bring you a great experience as home with an affordable rate! The owners are local and work in the hotel, so they make sure to create a nice warm atmosphere.

Our local owned Husky farm partners give priority to the animal’s rights and well-being daily.

In our store, only souvenir made in Finland and Lapland are being sold, especially all of our postcards are made by a local company in Rovaniemi.
We highly recommend and encourage our customers to buy local souvenirs, visit local museums and eat local food in local restaurants and thus support the local artisanal and local economy.
