Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Your Kilimanjaro mountain excursion will be grounded in a “leave no trace” approach. This traveling style allows us to both enjoy and protect Mt. Kilimanjaro, leaving as little a trace for our adventure as possible. We leave the mountain with everything we bring with us, including garbage and supplies. In addition to not leaving anything behind, our “leave no trace” policy also ensures that we leave what we find while on our journeys. Our goal is to leave as little a footprint as possible along the mountain trek. This means we plan ahead and prepare for our excursions, minimize the impact of campfires, respect all wildlife and nature, and also are considerate to other trekkers.

We also limit the use of disposable plastic by providing reusable water bottles for clients. These practices allow us to promote conservation in the beautiful outdoors of Tanzania, alongside exploring everything that Kilimanjaro offers—from breathtaking sunsets to steep climbs to winding paths.

The Impacts of this Trip

We hire local porters and mountain guides, providing opportunities for them to grow their careers. Our team of porters and mountain guides support those making the grueling trek and are crucial for our clients' success reaching the summit. Porters serve an essential role for clients to trek Kilimanjaro, and are largely part of the Kilimanjaro trekking culture. However, porters and mountain guides are often still underpaid for their hard work, and face unfair working conditions, oftentimes not provided with adequate shelter and food along the journey. We ensure that our porters and mountain guides are treated with respect, paid fair wages, and have the opportunity to grow in their careers. This creates good jobs in Tanzania and leads to wages that are +20% above Tanzania’s industry average. It also allows our porters and mountain guides to pursue their interests and expand on their skills, building upon opportunities for them to grow their community’s economy.
