Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Our Active Adventures sustain the environment through our focus on wildlife protection. We only operate Active Adventures in protected wildlife areas—National Parks and Conservation Areas that are overseen and managed by park rangers and conservationists. This allows us to support the conservation of these natural habitats, ensuring that animals can live the way they are meant to. We never curate animal experiences like travelers might experience with "animal sanctuaries" or setup "safari and wildlife parks" in other places around the world. An Active Adventure in Tanzania gives travelers an opportunity to be a passive observer experiencing the real wild where animals have lived for thousands of years.Further, all our Active Adventures rely on a “Leave no trace” approach which means that we strive to leave as little trace of our adventures as possible. We practice this through never leaving anything behind (always properly disposing of garbage and supplies), as well as never taking anything away from protected natural sites.
Our Active Adventures also sustain the environment through our accommodation partners. We ensure our hospitality partners have demonstrated environmental conservation efforts including the use of renewable energy, water conservation, recycling, and a respect for land and wildlife.
People
With every Active Adventure excursion, we partner with small-scale tour operators that hire local people in remote areas to run hyper local, unique tour experiences. These adventures include biking in the Manyara region, learning about sustainable farming practices, as well as joining a safari and exploring the wildlife of Tanzania. Our focus on hiring local guides means that we provide fair wages—wages that are +20% above Tanzania’s industry average. For our Active Adventures, we also partner with accommodation providers that practice local hiring and management by creating local jobs and providing fair wages. We field potential hospitality partners by doing site visits which include interviews with workers about their experience working with the company (i.e. the work environment and management practices, as well as general treatment as an employee) as well as oversight of their sustainability practices. This allows us to ensure that our accommodation partners are actively treating their local employees with dignity and respect, as well as providing them with opportunities to grow in their careers.Popular similar holidays
