Youth support volunteering in Croatia
Description of Youth support volunteering in Croatia
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe live based on our values and promises in our every day-to-day! Through energy conservation measures, responsible shopping and recycling policies, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and having a real impact on the environment.
We are proud to be a B Corp! Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. Society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and nonprofits alone. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.
We really want travelers to have the most unique and meaningful travel experiences. We help them to connect with the locals, to experience the culture and to contribute in a positive way to the local communities while making a friend from all over the world and having a positive impact on society and in the environment.
PeopleThere is still a large slice of the Croatian population living on the edge of poverty, and this reality strongly affects children and young people living in dysfunctional families without the capacity to support them. Youth Support projects are crucial to help these children in the learning process, but also to develop very important social and interrelational skills to curb this cycle of poverty.
By helping to foster inclusion, personal development and establish key life skills within these people, you can help to change their expectations of themselves and open up new possibilities for their future. As a volunteer, you’ll work in after-school centers as a positive role model assisting with homework, supporting and encouraging the studies of geography or history, organizing activities, as theatre sessions, helping with arts and crafts activities, sports activities and assisting with any other work that needs to be done at the organization.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to teach English in an informal way, through fun games or simply by interacting with the youth to improve their speaking and writing English skills, which is one of their biggest difficulties.
The centers you’ll volunteer in provide much-needed safe places for education both in life and in schooling, helping young people socialize and be supported. International volunteers are seen as an important part of this education as young people at the centers often haven’t encountered different cultures and values before. This is an opportunity for you to bring new perspectives and creativity to these centers.
Your exact duties will depend on the need at the time, though you can expect to work with young people from 7 to 18 years old. You’ll work closely alongside the organization staff and other volunteers to promote better outcomes for youth. This project has a minimum duration requirement of 2 weeks.
