Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

This is a tailor-made itinerary and can be customised to your liking in regards to accommodation and cultural activities. As a global tour operator we understand the importance of providing responsible and sustainable holidays to our clients and therefore only work with local suppliers to ensure the most authentic experience for you while supporting the areas which we visit.

This 9 day trip in Uganda visits multiple national parks which are bursting with natural beauty and an abundance of wildlife - therefore it is of the utmost importance that we travel through these places respectfully and responsibly.

This tailor-made holiday includes a visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Kampala where white rhinos are cared for. The 7,000 hectare sanctuary houses the only white rhinos in Uganda and aims to provide a safe home for them to thrive, breed and remain safe from poaching. The eventual goal is to re-introduce them into the national parks once the numbers have improved. While the money spent here goes back into the conservation of the rhinos, by bringing travellers here we are also spreading awareness of endangered animals and how important conservation efforts are.

Possibly the biggest highlight of this holiday is gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. There are around 600 gorillas left in Bwindi which accounts for half of gorillas left worldwide. Trekking to see the gorillas can take anything from 1 to 8 hours depending on their location, and while the trek is tough, it is one of the most rewarding wildlife encounters in the world. Customers can then spend one hour in the presence of these magical creatures, observing their interactions and daily life. The money travellers spend on the permit and visiting the national park is essential in providing funds that go towards protecting these gorillas. Much like the rhino visit, educating our travellers on the importance of conservation and protecting our wildlife is at the forefront of our animal responsible travel policy.

Finally, we have a strict responsible travel policy that we ask all customers to adhere to everyday. This means switching off all electricity when not required, preserving water where possible, taking all rubbish and litter with you and disposing of it correctly and respecting the flora and fauna that you find along the way.

The Impacts of this Trip

Gorilla Trekking - while many people are solely focused on seeing gorillas in the wild it is also important to remember the communities which also benefit from the activity. Most of the gorilla trackers are ex-poachers who now make a living safely tracking these gorillas and bringing people to meet them for a once in a lifetime experience. In addition to this, it is possible to hire a local porter, which we always recommend customers do, to assist you with carrying your day pack and helping you through the thick jungle. Not only does this immensely help you have an easier walking experience, but it is providing work for local people and therefore boosting the local economy further.

All aspects of this tailor-made holiday are done using only Ugandan suppliers - from the accommodation, transport, activities and more. We work closely with local guides in national parks, as well as suppliers who we can ensure provide the best experiences for our clients while offering an authentic holiday. We have built strong relationships with these suppliers over the years and are proud to continue supporting them. In addition to this, our expert tour leaders and guides will always recommend the best restaurants and establishments where customers can sample tasty local food while ensuring they are supporting smaller businesses and not large, international chains.
