Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

To provide an authentic, locals perspective, as well as the chance to witness some impressive hidden gems, our local partner uses public transport to explore the city of Moscow. The promotion of greener transport options for an ever-growing metropolitan city is more than environmentally-friendly; it supports the continued growth of the local system itself.

The distance travelled on this trip is substantial, so we use public trains rather than private vehicles for the especially long journeys. This significantly reduces our carbon footprint and provides a more comfortable and enjoyable experience with the opportunity to admire the natural landscape.

The scenery and landscape is what makes your experience, and through encouragement and multiple opportunities from our leaders to refill your reusable bottle, this can be preserved. Our local leaders encourage refilling and reusing bottles with the safe tap drinking water to discourage buying of single-use plastic water bottles, which are also actively not distributed.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

The Impacts of this Trip

Working with local leaders and suppliers supports the country's local economy, as well as providing an accurate insight into the culture and traditions of Russia, which is a very important aspect to all our trips.

Venturing out beyond the usual tourist hot-spots, we visit rural communities where ancient traditions are alive in the form of reindeer hide covered tents and Karelian wooden architecture. Whilst here, you will have the opportunity to try local cuisine in many of the family-run cafes as well as explore the local shops. Heading into these off-the-beaten-track areas encourages economical development as well as the education of new languages for the locals, as well as shows the potential of growing the industry to the next generation in a sustainable manner.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
