Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Lapland is characterized by its unspoiled nature, forests, vast swamps, and many lakes. It is our responsibility to protect and preserve Lapland's nature for future generations. Join us in our goal to take care of nature and wildlife. We follow strict “no trace left behind” policy and we encourage you to do the same. Let's leave nothing that doesn't belong in nature behind us. Our guides will collect any trash from you and feel free to give them anything you need to throw away. They will make sure it is disposed or recycled properly. In order to limit waste production, recyclable or reusable dishware is being used during our tours. Thankfully, tap water in Finland is of very good quality, therefore we use tap water. Our guides bring this water in reusable thermal bottles for our customers. This tour is operated in winter and the temperature is usually below zero. The guides will bring enough water for everybody. However, we recommend you to bring your own (thermal) bottle which you can refill in your hotels or in our office before the trip.
During the tour, you will taste local food such as reindeer sausage usually purchased from a market across the street, so we do not produce any food shopping-related emissions.
People
As a family-owned tour operator specializing in Lapland, we fully contribute to the local economies. We proudly cooperate with local providers of activities (above all local reindeer and husky farms), accommodation, equipment, and souvenirs. For example, this package includes a stay in the Aakenus Hotel, a Finnish based business. Locating close to the town centre (400 metres), the hotel offers various accommodation services and promises to bring you a great experience as home with an affordable rate!
In this tour you will visit locally owned husky and reindeer farm. The farm is operating for many years now thanks to what it provides a professional services, but also takes professional care of the animals.
In our store, only souvenir made in Finland and Lapland are being sold, especially all of our postcards are made by a local company in Rovaniemi.
We highly recommend and encourage our customers to buy local souvenirs, visit local museums. You will have a great opportunity to do so, when you will visit the Arktikum museum. Besides that we recommend you to try local dishes in local restaurants.
