Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Transport: In each location on this small group tour, our tour leaders will conduct a walking orientation of the places we visit. Walking around a new destination is not only the best way to see it at a slow pace, but using your own two feet is undoubtedly the most environmentally friendly mode of transport. On this tour we also use a riverboat to cruise the Mekong Delta and reach Vietnam from Cambodia. This is an excellent way to see the quiet pace of life along the Mekong and gain a truly authentic viewpoint while also reducing vehicles on the roads between the two countries. When travelling from Bangkok to Siem Reap, we make use of the existing transport infrastructure by taking a bus.
We have comprehensive responsible travel guidelines which are available online for all customers. These outline how every traveller can do their part to protect the environment of the locations which we visit and limit further damage caused by tourists. We aim to educate our customers that no act is too small, and by working together we can make travel sustainable for the long run. Tips include avoiding the use of air-conditioning unless necessary, ensuring all electricity is switched off when not in use, asking that your accommodation does not change your towels or bedding in order to save water and resources and taking shorter showers. We also encourage customers to bring their own reusable toiletries and avoid the single-use plastic cosmetics that many hotels provide.
The Impacts of this Trip
Our small group size allows us to stay in smaller, locally owned guesthouses and hotels wherever possible. The concept of supporting local is instilled in our staff members around the world and our tour leaders encourage customers to try local food markets and smaller restaurants that can offer delicious, authentic food. They also know the best markets in town to pick up some lovely home-made souvenirs.
This tour spends time travelling through the Mekong Delta, visiting small communities who live along the river. This educational experience is important in appreciating how other cultures live which is an important aspect of our group tours.
Meals: While in Hanoi, our tour leaders encourage our customers to eat at Koto Restaurant - an establishment which trains disadvantaged youth and aims to end the cycle of poverty. We also support a similar organisation in Hoi An - the Blue Dragon Restaurant. The restaurant is staffed by ex-street children and the owner works towards education, health and food programs for street children and orphaned children in the area.
Travelling with Respect – On our website’s responsible travel pages we provide a list of tips on creating good relationships between our travellers and the local communities that we visit on our tours. For example, for this tour we would recommend that clients learn a few words of the local language to try and engage with vendors, and we would advise researching the history, religion and local traditions of Vietnam to help them appreciate the architecture and culture of those countries and thereby get the most from their trip while respecting local customs.
