Description of Ardeche family activity holiday in France
"NUMBER 1 IN THE SUNDAY TIMES ULTIMATE 100 HOLIDAYS FOR 2014"
This week-long small group family activity holiday in the south of France is centered around a canoe descent of the magnificent Ardeche River. A wonderful adventure to share as a family.
Run by a small company with over twenty years’ experience working in the Ardeche, this trip is all about personal touches. A limited number of family groups will be participating per week meaning there is plentiful opportunity for you to form bonds and friendships without ever feeling crowded. Additionally, while all the activities are suitable for those aged seven and up, you will always be matched, where possible, into the weeks where there will be children of a similar age.
The highlight of your trip is the two-day descent of the Ardeche River, spending one night at a bivouac site deep in the middle of the gorge. Your expert guides will take care of you all the way, guiding you through the rapids and keeping you entertained with games and tales of the area. They also have a vast knowledge of what makes a comfortable descent, so you’ll be supplied with tents and hammocks, a fantastic barbecue as well as coffee and pancakes for breakfast!
As well as the descent you have the chance to spend a day at a high ropes course up in the pine forests of Villefort and another day climbing and abseiling in the limestone cliffs of the Chassezac gorge.
Though there is a set itinerary for the week, this can be adapted to customise your holiday to your needs, including the arrangement of alternative activities. Additionally, photographs of your activities are provided free of cost, so you get to treasure the memories.
No experience is necessary for any of the activities as all skills are taught on site by a fully UK qualified team of passionate and professional intstructors. This trips is not about pushing you out of your comfort zones, but encouraging you to share the challenges of the activities as a family in an environment that is both exhilarating, safe and fun.
Accommodation isn't included in the base price price but reservations can be made on your behalf.
These holidays are available throughout school holidays, May Half Term & Summer

Reviewed on 31 Jul 2019 by Robert LeighThere was a heat wave while we were there and the leaders knew all the best places to cool off, rock jumping or cave swimming. It worked really well being among English families and we made good friends with both the staff and travelers. Read full review

PlanetAnother of our concerns is leaving no trace – from using planned riding routes to ensure that our adventures will not have a negative impact on the physical environment to fastidiously clearing up after all activities and excursions. By planning our routes, sticking to established trails and taking all of our waste away with us we can ensure that the impact of our presence is nominal. We encourage and facilitate the recycling or paper, glass and plastics.
We encourage the use of our minibus vehicles during holidays so that our affect on road traffic and pollution is reduced. We also strongly recommend the much greener train option to travel here; there is a direct service from London to Avignon on a Saturday and a one-stop service on all other days. We are committed to responsible travel and request feedback from our guests in order to continually improve our service and performance.
PeopleOne of our primary focuses within the realms of responsible travel is giving back to the local community; we aim to use 100% locally owned businesses for all of our external requirements. These include all of our activity suppliers for canoe rental, bike hire, horse riding, high roping, etc.
Our short breaks have many options for accommodation and activities. Each external supplier that we use for these is a locally run business and contributes directly to the town. Our walks and sightseeing trips are planned in order to coincide with local markets and points of historical interest.
Local economy is well supported in France and even chain supermarkets supply local crop – from wine to fresh goods like eggs and fruit & vegetables, produce is placed into a cooperative; so by shopping in town clients will be supporting the community. We encourage guests to visit the markets for a chance to immerse themselves in French culture and to meet the local producers.
We do this not only because it is good for the region economically but because we feel that is will give the local population a chance to represent itself to visitors.
