Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Cycling has minimal impact on the environment as you provide most of the energy yourself. Also, by cycling independently, and not having to worry about keeping up with a group, you set the pace so you can soak up the sights, sounds and scents of your surrounds and really get under the skin of the place youíre visiting.

We proactively encourage our clients to think about travelling responsibly too: packing light, saving water, buying locally, re-cycling all maps and route notes at the end of their trip as well as to be mindful of not leaving any rubbish behind.

UK Office:
We are aware of the impact tourism has at home and abroad, and we make every effort to balance the environmental impact of travelling with the immense benefits sustainable tourism can bring to destinations and the people who live there. We are signatories of Tourism Declares an Emergency and as such we have a plan of action on reducing our carbon emissions. We will work towards improving life through travel - for the places we visit on our adventures, the people we meet when there, and the planet which hosts us. our cycling and walking holidays for example are designed to be low carbon - giving you the tools to explore under your own steam rather than in a vehicle.

In the office: we turn off all electrical equipment every night; we use energy-efficient bulbs; we measure print and paper consumption, and re-cycle wherever possible; we print our brochures on paper from sustainable sources, and send them out in bio-degradable packaging.

Leaders & local suppliers:
When youíre cycling from village to village, you can enjoy a relationship with locals in a way motorists passing through never can. You get off the beaten track, supporting the local economies of places which might not ordinarily benefit from tourism and youíll find that people treat you as a visitor rather than a tourist.

Boasting 300 days of sunshine a year, bright Trentino-Alto Adige is a timeless bilingual region at the crossroads of Italy and Austria. Along the route you'll stay in some wonderful towns. Distinctively Germanic, Dobbiaco, Brunico and Bressanone boast wooden buildings, beautiful squares and riverside settings. Bolzano is the turning point where Italy creeps upon you, its large piazzas, linked by porticoed streets, all shadowed by the mountains. Onwards into Trentino, and to the town of Trento where Italy arrives with a bang, the volume rises, as you wander within the old walls, admiring the mix of buildings from the 13th century castle, to Renaissance and Venetian piazzas and grand buildings.

The local food is a splendid blend of the Austro-Italian cultures, where you'll easily find a traditional German beef pancake soup (Fladlesuppe) or a meat schnitzel being served alongside a sliced steak salad (tagliata), or apple strudel (apfelstrudel) next to panna cotta at the local restaurants. They seem to take the best food from both cultures, so large buffet breakfasts come with good fresh Italian coffee.

En route you'll stay in 4 star hotels located in the centre of the towns - offering the chance to sample the local food in a simple pizzeria or even a high-end restaurant.

As with all our holidays, we encourage visitors to buy from independently-run shops & establishments where possible, supporting the local people and their families.
