Spend eight days getting to know the fishermen and mountain Bedouin people of Oman, in the Musandam Peninsula. This area is off the familiar tourist trail but is uniquely beautiful. Nicknamed the Norway of Arabia, the Musandam has fjord-like scenery and a population of around 30,000 people. Little fishing communities are peppered along the coast and there are isolated Bedouin Villages in the mountains inland. Most people here fish for a living, with the clean waters and healthy coral providing rich pickings. The trip begins in Khasab, the capital of Musandam, a fascinating city with a 17th-century fort, constructed by the Portuguese when they occupied the region, before boarding a traditional dhow to spend three days and two nights cruising around this rugged coastline. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to see how local fishing people live, and even fish with them, to better understand their lives and also simply enjoy their company! After the cruise, spend a day with the Bedouin people inland, for an insight into life in an isolated mountain village.
All accommodation, meals and guides are included, and this trip is suitable for all age groups.

The Impacts of this Trip
The guides are Omani Nationals who have a natural association with the local people and knowledge of their history, culture and lifestyle which they share with visitors. They are local experts and have developed good links with the local fishing communities and Bedouin people in the Mountains of Musandam. They are Omanis who know the Bedouin lifestyle and their customs and cultures very well. Your guide will be with you from the start of the tour to its end.
During the trip you will visit the Bedouin fishing village of Kumzar and spend time with the people of that village. On the way back to Dubai, you will visit Sayah village which is situated at 1100m in the Musandam Mountains, where you will meet the Bedouin farming communities. The itinerary is designed to allow you to spend valuable time with these local people to gain an understanding of their beliefs and way of life and to take part in traditional activities where possible. Your guide will help with the language so that you get as much as you can from the experience.
These experiences are designed to offer greater cross cultural understanding between the local culture and the visitor, by promoting genuine contact within an enjoyable holiday experience. We are working with our local partner to deliver a unique set of enjoyable and inspiring cultural insights for the visitor. We hope you will come home refreshed, inspired and with memories and a greater understanding of another culture that may even have an influence on your way of living back home.
Within this Oman experience, it is an insight into the lives of the fishing communities of the Musandam and the mountain village people who are all Bedouin. You will do this by enjoying the landscape, taking part in traditional activities and getting to understand their ways and beliefs just by being with them and talking around a fire or on the trip.
We have not identified a local charity to support yet so we will donate a proportion of the income we receive to an International charity of choice, which at this time is Wateraid.
