Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We use public transport for majority of the trip – this way our travellers can keep their carbon footprint low while getting a taste of how the locals travel in the country. For some, it’s also an excellent way to get to know some locals. Our activities include hiking and walking tours which are an excellent way to see the places we visit, get some exercise in and also use less resources. The hostels we choose are keen on doing the best they can to stay as eco-friendly as possible. On this tour you’ll stay in hotels, guesthouses & spend 1 night at a beach camp. The beach camp is particularly sustainable – as it uses up as little recourses as possible and discourages the need for more hotels. We always encourage our travels to use the local services on offer while at these lodgings, as this is a great way to give back to the local community and economy.
We introduce our travellers to the natural wildlife – as we believe this will teach them about the animals meanwhile also learning to respect them. On this trip the travellers will be seeing the Philippine Tarsier, at one of the island's protected wildlife sanctuaries. We always emphasise that there should be no flash photography, that they should follow the instructions from the sanctuaries and not disturb or scare the animals.
Travellers should not drink the tap water in the Philippines however we still suggest packing a reusable water bottle in case they come across refill stations, which can help minimize the trail of plastic left behind. We also recommend packing as light as possible, to help keep your carbon footprint low.
People
We want our adventures to be as authentic as possible, and this means providing the possibilities as much as possible to mingle with the local people and the local culture. We hire local bilingual Adventure Leaders. This is a great way to support the local people provide employment opportunities. It’s also great for our travellers as they get the knowledge and tips from a local!
We also try to make sure that our unmissable activities are something that is out of the ordinary for the travellers but also typical of the destination so that the trip really will be unforgettable! For example, on this trip we take our travellers on a half-day Jeepney Tour, a typical transport in Manila. We also take them on a boat tour to El Nido, which is a must see paradise. Meanwhile, we will of course hire local Jeepney drivers and local boat crew. All of our customers’ interactions are with local suppliers, and we promote integration between travellers and local people through our “unmissable” included activities and our optional activities, and opportunities for authentic cultural immersion.
Our Adventure Leaders are trained in ensuring that customers are aware of local customs and traditions, educating them on when it is appropriate to take photos and/or videos.
