Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
This short eight day adventure focuses on some of the most stunning landscapes and environments that exist within Peru, such as Machu Picchu and the Amazon Jungle. It is paramount that we do what we can to protect these areas for future generations and that is why we have an in depth environmental welfare policy which is available for all customers. The entrance fee to Machu Picchu goes back into the sites restoration and protection.

During our time in the Amazon Jungle we stay in eco-lodges in the depths of the rainforest. The lodges are designed with nature in mind - using indigenous materials that do not alarm or disrupt the local wildlife. All rooms have private bathrooms however hot water is limited in order to preserve local resources. For this reason electricity is also limited and oil lamps are used as guidance along the walkways in the evenings. The lodge does have water filters and so we recommend customers bring their own reusable water bottle. In summary, the lodge works hard on sustainability and we are happy to continue supporting these efforts by bringing customers here.

Wildlife- This tour comes into contact with different types of animals throughout, from llamas on Machu Picchu to birds in the Amazon Jungle. We adhere to a strict animal welfare policy and customers are encouraged to act responsibly and respectfully towards wildlife. This includes maintaining a safe distance so not to scare the animal, turning off the flash when taking photos and not feeding the animals.

Group Size - The maximum group size on this tour is 19 people, meaning we can use smaller accommodation and have minimum impact when visiting busy sights such as Machu Picchu.

All customers are encouraged to act responsibly when staying in hotels in guesthouses, including ensuring all electricity and lights are switched off when not needed, air con is not left on, towels and bedding are not replaced unless necessary and water consumption is kept to a minimum. This is especially apt when staying in the Amazon Lodge, where it is paramount that everything is done to minimise the use of resources.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

Community and contributing to the economies which we visit is always at the forefront of what we do. This is why we always ask travellers to think about the consequences of where they buy from, who they are supporting and the impact they are having during their holiday. Another large part of our ethos is travelling with respect, educating the traveller and embracing different cultures around the world. As well as in-depth policies online that outline how customers can have a positive impact on the communities that we visit, our tour leaders are passionate about sharing their destinations and educating travellers along the way. This tour uses a local Peruvian tour leader to guide you through each location, which provides the best first-hand knowledge on the locations visited and in turn supports local employment.

Our excursion to visit Machu Picchu includes a local guide who will provide unrivalled knowledge on the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not only does this provide first-hand information for customers but it supports local employment which is always at the forefront of how we operate. Similarly, our excursion in the Amazon Jungle also includes guided walks with naturalist guides who have the best knowledge on the flora and fauna of the rainforest.

This tour includes breakfasts, while also including lunch and dinner in the Amazon Jungle due to the remote location. When only breakfast is included in Cusco and Ollantaytambo, our tour leader will encourage customers to eat in local restaurants that support the communities which we visit.

This tour includes a guided tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. During the excursion we visit a traditional Peruvian market where customers have the opportunity to purchase local handicrafts and souvenirs to further support the communities who live here.
