Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
Inclusions. While this trip is only a short break, we packed few fun and responsible things to do into the itinerary. We will go cycling around Loch Leven and we’ll scale the Pap of Glencoe. What’s responsibly about that? Well, both activities are powered by human beings and therefore fully cut carbon emissions. In fact, cycling and walking are proven to be the most environment friendly activities. Yes, it will require some physical work from participants, but even if cycling and walking is something new to you, fear not, we will always choose an accessible, safe and enjoyable track in line with group abilities.
To further minimize our impact on the environment, we try to reduce single-use plastics on our trips. We often provide reusable bags, encourage the use of reusable drinking bottles and are working to increase access to places to refill them. Two litres of oil and 200 litres of water are used to produce one single plastic bottle. Considering this, it becomes clear how important it is to largely do without plastic. During the welcome meeting, our tour guide will discuss this topic with the group. All our tour leaders are passionate about responsible travel, so the messaging around important environmental issues is consistent at all times.

The Impacts of this Trip

Scotland receives a great number of tourists every day. On one hand it is an important income generator for local economies, but on the other, we need to remember that local people may sometimes feel tired from the fact their neighbourhoods are flooded with visitors. We need to respect that in the world-famous destination ordinary people are going about their everyday life. By minimising our group size to maximum 12 travellers, we are also minimising our impact on everyday life of our hosts.
On our cycling adventure, we’ll stop in a Loch Leven Seafood Café. A local restaurant that serves a fresh catch of shellfish from their sister company which exports live shellfish to Europe and Far East for many years. It is well known in the neighborhood as the best place for cooked lobster and pan-fried scallops. You’ll enjoy its relaxed, informal atmosphere and interior design provided by Scottish artist from Keltneyburn Smith before continuing to your accommodation in Glencoe.
During your discoveries around Fort William, take a look at the town’s namesake old fort and hear its history as part of the 17th-century Glencoe Massacre as you walk to the Old Inverlochy Castle. It is important and show a great amount of respect to learn and understand the past of the place you visit.
After a little bit of sightseeing and history, visit a place that made Scotland famous all over the world – one of the oldest, licensed whisky distilleries in Scotland. Ben Nevis Distillery is crafting whisky beneath Britain’s highest mountain since 1825. It’s also our part, by visiting and supporting this place, to keep it going for another centuries.
