Self drive tour in Sicily
Description of Self drive tour in Sicily
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetSicily is a rural island and communities rely on the environment now, as they have always done, to produce some of the finest ingredients in the world. From salt, to fish to pistachios to the grapes that make the wine the environment plays a very important role in the economy and community
The small restaurants and cafes in the towns and countryside you visit use a mix of homegrown and locally sourced ingredients from the farm or the sea which goes minimize food miles limiting the overall environmental impact of the trip.
The street food vendors cooking specialities like arancini (deep-fried balls of rice) and Panelle (a chickpea fritter) also use ingredients straight from the market or grown at home.
We have a number of responsible policies in place to help keep our environmental impact to a minimum for the people that call this area home and to attract future generations of travellers.
Most of your meals are taken at local restaurants, cafes and hotel breakfasts. This reduces our packaging significantly and helps support small and medium-size businesses
You will receive a free reusable water bottle on the first day of your tour and there will be lots of opportunities to refill en-route.
Our philosophy of slow travel and exposing visitors to artisan Italy means we use small, local and micro businesses where ever possible to supply services like accommodation, transport and sightseeing such as visits to artisan workshops. In fact, it adds to the experience on our tours and is an important part of small business income and we feel also helps keep traditions alive and thriving.
We choose suppliers that have the same respect and value of the environment as we do.
PeopleIt can sometimes seem that life and traditions in Sicily haven't changed in centuries. The slower pace and traditional way of life are what makes this unique island incredibly charming and very rewarding for the visitor.
As an Italian company, we feel it is our responsibility to ensure that by bringing guests to visit Sicily we help maintain these traditions and support these values.
Making quality products by hand is very important in Italian culture. From pasta to shoes to supercars we take immense pride in Italian Design and Craftmanship. As Italians, we have met some incredible artisans across the country over the years and call proud them our friends. On many of our trips we ensure that we visit these artisans, usually on a private tour to see and learn more about their craft. This helps support them in their passion and keep traditions alive.
On this trip we meet many such small, independent, passionate suppliers among Sicilian winemakers and soon to be your friends too.
All of our suppliers, partners and friends that provide goods and services to your travel experience have sound commercial agreements in place. We work together closely to ensure that there is no compromise to quality by squeezing margins as some larger corporations can operate.
