Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We believe in making the journey as stimulating and sustainable as possible, what is why we use public transportation. From Athens to Syros Island Aran Island we use a public ferry instead of a private charter boat to reduce this tripís carbon footprint. These ferries are large car ferries that transport hundreds of people, along with cars and trucks. There are no reserved seats and passengers are free to walk around the ferry freely. On the Island, we mainly travel by public bus. Besides having a smaller impact on the environment, public transport gives our travellers a unique opportunity to get in touch with the locals and learn more about the life of the locals.

The water quality in Greece is excellent and it is safe to drink tap water practically anywhere in Greece. This plays an important role in achieving our goal of minimising plastic waste. We always suggest bringing a reusable water bottle as this really helps cut down on waste and additionally, give out canvas bags at the start of each trip. Our travellers can then use them every day, whether to go shopping for souvenirs or for carrying those daily essentials.

People

Syros is also a great place for those with a sweet tooth, so stop at a traditional loukoumi workshop to meet the family who run it, learn how these multi-coloured fruit-flavoured jellies (also called Greek Delight) are made, and maybe sample some chalvadopita (hazelnut, almond or honey-filled wafers) too.

This tour offers a chance to indulge and explore Greek culture at its best. On this trip you will be staying in a conveniently located, family-run hotel. With four nights here you'll help support a local business at an important time, so unpack and settle in. It also percolates money beyond into small businesses that supply the hotel and in this way money is spread throughout the island. Syros is a small island not overrun by tourism, so it is a great chance for you to meet the locals and learn some of the Greek language - one of the oldest European languages.

This small group tour has a maximum of 12 participants, allowing us to have a low impact on the communities we visit and meaning we can ensure we donít disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people.
