Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The main goal for our Northern Lights, king crab and nature trips is to give our guests an impression of "the not so very often seen" part of northern Norway – wildlife, fisheries, "abandoned" places, the magnificent landscape of the Varanger area and it’s people. In the area we find historical and multicultural influences - Norwegian, Saami, Finish (immigrants that came to the area during the 19th century) and Russian (from the Pomor trade). There are also many remains from WWII. All our tripsare made in a comlete understanding with our cultural, social and ecological herritage and surroundings. If the wind is with us, we'll set the sails to avoid using fossil fuel an by that reducing carbon emissions. A clean an quiet voyage. And off course - any contact with the wildlife will be performed in a way so that we do not disturb or cause any harm to the animals.

People

Our main dishes will basically be from fish and game (reindeer), which means that we will support local fishermen and the saami people of the North. There are also some other local producers/suppliers which we, to the extend possible, will use. All our other food – naturally – has to be bought in the local stores we will pass on our way. If possible we will harvest from the fjord. Cod, king crabs, polloc. Our trips are not actively guided trips. We want our guests to be curious, adventurous and an active part. We are only there to make you feel well and responsible. Nevertheless - the exeptions are our visits to the local museums - the Saami museum in Varabgerbotn, the Pomor museum in Vardø, the Kven museum in Vadsø - and so on. The area we visit is densely populated and the villages are few. But we know - what we do during our trips will benefit the local communities.
