Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Conservation management is the foundation on which Sanbona was established, and will always be a priority. Sanbona has been a pioneer of conservation, reserve development and eco-tourism of this scope within the Western Cape. Our dedicated Wildlife Department consists of:

Wildlife veterinarians
Conservation managers
Security operatives
Field staff

Together, we manage our unique ecosystem and ensure that we achieve our objectives, while preserving and refining the ecological, commercial, and social integrity of the area.

Conservation efforts within Sanbona are linked across all aspects of the Reserve. Sustainability and responsible utilisation are foundations for our day to day management at our lodges, administrative buildings, staff villages and workshops. To assist our endeavours to be as effective as possible, we at Sanbona have partnered with the world renowned and respected Wilderness Foundation and their Green Leaf Environmental Standard (GLES) programme.
The aim of Sanbona, using the GLES, is to reduce the effects of consumption on our environment and improve upon environmental management and awareness in an eco-friendly manner, by addressing the direct impact of the Reserve on the environment, reducing our carbon footprint and improving the environmental education of owners and consumers alike, towards realising ways of enjoying the tourism product without compromising quality and experience.

Itís one thing to visit a country, itís another to take part in the mission to rehabilitate and rebuild its wildlife. We believe that preserving the continentís delicate ecosystems and wildlife is a joint effort which should be practised by both locals and international travelers. Our conservation safaris promote lodges who actively partake in wildlife conservation and offer guests the unique opportunity to participate in projects alongside industry experts.

The Impacts of this Trip

One&Only has a number of responsible tourism initiatives. The have opened up a gallery on the 1st floor of the hotel which is a platform to promote local artists so that the hotel guests can support African art, culture and creativity. The hotel has a long history of supporting the arts. The communities in and around Cape Town are given support when you visit a local attraction in the area.

Sanbona upliftments the local communities by only employing from the surrounding villages and also helps with their education.

In support of women empowerment in Africa through the means of travel, we have partnered with Project Brave Foundation, a non-profit organization focussed on uplifting marginalized women and children in South Africa. Our purpose is to connect our clients with Project Brave during their safari in South Africa Ė whether this means that they actively partake in a volunteering program or provide financial support, the choice is up to the individual.
