Self-Guided Danube Cycling - Vienna to Budapest
Description of Self-Guided Danube Cycling - Vienna to Budapest
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetOur self-guided cycling holiday uses the Danube Cycle Path, a trail that tracks Europe’s second longest river, the Danube. Exploring by bike is one of the best ways to reduce your impact on the environment. Our self-guided trips usually operate with only two people travelling which further helps to minimise your impact on the landscapes and communities encountered. All breakfasts are included and this will include locally sourced produce as much as possible. Our local partner transports the luggage from night stop to nigh stop as part of a shared transfer scheme, once again reducing our impact on the environment.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
PeopleWe use locally owned inns and hotels on this holiday to contribute towards the local economy. Since 1997, Austria has offered the "Hundertwasser" eco-label for businesses in the tourist industry. This is the Austrian symbol for environmental protection, guaranteeing compliance with high environmental standards, and we aim to work with partners who display this symbol. There are ample opportunities on this trip to pause along the cycle path and visit towns often overlooked by others, in search of the best hospitality. Your stop will be rewarded with delicious local food and drinks on offer. Maybe try the sweet chocolate Sacher Torte or a refreshing glass of Bavarian beer. These stops also promote local interaction and learning more about the landscape through which you are travelling. These cultural exchanges are often the highlight of the holiday.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
