Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This itinerary was created with the families in mind to help educate children on importance of biodiversity and conservation. With 2 experienced naturalists aboard both children and adults will learn about local flora and fauna as well as the underwater world, and the importance of conservation and preserving the nature. There are jungle walks and bug searching expeditions, visit to the Komodo National Park and (if we're in luck) encounters with the manta rays and whale sharks. The naturalists will also be sharing their knowledge during the evening presentations. A visit to one of the coral restoration project is also on the agenda. This is a perfect opportunity to learn about the endangered marine life (such as the whale sharks) and the importance of preserving and protecting their habitat. This itinerary is built around a very special cruise that takes our guests from Bali all the way to remote Flores on a stunning Indonesian pinisi boat. The boats are crafted in Indonesia by skilful locals using traditional techniques and methods. As it's a sailing boat, it makes the greenest way of transportation making sure the impact on the environment is minimal.
People
This itinerary focuses a lot on local culture and remote communities that preserve their traditions. During this trip the travellers will visit the bajao people (or the "sea gypsies") who live in the stilted houses above the water, and learn about their way of life. They will get to meet local craftsmen who specialise in boat building and assemble the traditional Indonesian pinisi boats, similar to the one used for this cruise. The travellers will also meet local fishermen of Sumbawa who now take part in protecting the whale sharks that are traditionally hunted for their precious fins. And of course there are many more encounters with the local people who live on smaller islands way off the tourist path giving them the opportunity to share their culture with the travellers and make a living by helping the cruise crew arrange activities. The crew and tour leaders are all local to Indonesia with bags of experience and knowledge about their country, having travelled and sailed across Indonesia for many yearsPopular similar holidays
