Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Walking is arguably the greenest from of travel with no carbon footprint, good for the health and the land. On this walking holiday we hike in Dartmoor National Park and the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in a variety of different protected environments. Our hikes help to support ongoing efforts to protect these areas and encourage local wildlife and flora and allow us to explore with minimal impact on the natural world. For every walking holidaymaker we take on these beautiful and rewarding walks through Devon we make a financial contribution to Rewilding Britain, helping to support landowners who want to invest in rewilding, helping people understand their land and restore the natural processes that have been suppressed over time.
As part of our Responsible Travel policy, we advise customers to take reusable water bottles with them on tour. Our local leaders do not actively distribute single-use plastic water bottles. Tap water on this trip is absolutely safe to drink and we encourage customers to refill their bottles from either the hotel or other drinking fountains or springs that we will encounter.
People
Along the Devon Coast to Coast cycle route, we stay in small, locally-run and owned inns and hotels, and frequently stop off en route to enjoy a cup of coffee or some home-made cake in a local cafe. As well as providing fuel for our ride, this helps us learn more about the places we pass through, and provides important economic support for these communities. We’ll also pass through local market towns, where you can purchase local delicacies and crafts, and when you hang up your wheels in the evenings, you may even be tempted by a well-earned pint of local real ale. We work with a local company and employ local staff to lead the trip.Travelling across Devon by bike is the best way to explore as you leave only tyre tracks. Cyclists that explore this wonderful Sustrans route help to increase the number of visitors and this in turn helps to support the local effort to maintain and improve the trail through increased usage, as well as generating future visitors through recommendations to friends and family.
