Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

On this walking holiday we hike in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty through a variety of different protected environments. Walking is arguably the greenest form of transport and creates least impact on the environments that we discover on these easy going hikes, helping to support ongoing efforts to protect these areas and encourage local wildlife and flora.

We visit sites of important cultural interest and local heritage such as Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden and Bolton Abbey Estate. This helps to contribute to the local upkeep and preservation of these National Trust and privately owned places of local importance.

For every walking holidaymaker we take on this journey through God's Own Country we make a financial contribution to Rewilding Britain, helping to support landowners who want to invest in rewilding, helping people understand their land and restore the natural processes that have been suppressed over time.

As part of our Responsible Travel policy, we advise customers to take reusable water bottles with them on tour. Tap water on this trip is absolutely safe to drink and we encourage customers to refill their bottles from either the hotel or other drinking fountains or springs that we will encounter.

People

This twin-centre walking and cultural holiday stays in the towns of Masham and Settle in locally-run hotels. In addition to this we have chosen to offer the trip on a bed and breakfast basis so that, with the assistance of our local tour leader's knowledge, you can dine out in evenings and help support some of the many restaurants close by the hotel where typical local fare is served.

Along the way we visit the local Black Sheep brewery in Masham to learn about its interesting backstory and sample some fine Yorkshire beers. We also visit a Wensleydale creamery to learn more about this local cheese delicacy. When visiting and passing through local market towns, you can purchase local food, drink and crafts, and at the end of a walk you may even be tempted by a well-earned pint of local real ale in a historical and typical Dales pub. This helps ensure that our trips benefit the economy directly where we stay.
